I'm sure you guys can help me out with this
Okay, so I'm pretty new to playing guitar and I have a question about amps/set ups. I have a Stageworks SW1000 power amp(2 channels, stereo and bridged), a 6 channel mixer, and two 15in PA cabs that I used to use for vocals, but now I play through it in my room.
So, here's the question. I've heard that some people run power amps into guitar cabs and run some kind of signal modifier for guitar tone. Would I be better off using my power amp and buying a 4x12 and whatever module I need or should I get a half stack. I'm on a tight budget, as well.
Will my power amp work? What else do I need to buy?

Your poweramp will definitely work out fine for guitar ... I say buy a preamp ( that's the 'module' you're speaking of ), and use it with your poweramp through a 4x12.

On a budget?
Rocktron Pro GAPs are supposed to be pretty good
Peavey Rockmaster = cheap and versatile
Behringer V-AMP PRO would be what I recommend for a "cheap" preamp.
If you can afford some more, try snagging an Marshall JMP-1 on ebay, or an ENGL 530 (what I use, check the clip a few threads down) on www.rocksolidamps.com.
As for a cab, you're gonna have to use a guitar cab unless you want some bees-in-a-tin-can tone. (however, the 530 DOES have a switch that lets you practice through hi-fi PA cabs, without the need for a poweramp...it's only for practice though, and is very quiet)

So all I would need to do would be to run my power amp and guitar into the preamp, then my cabinet out of the preamp?

Sweet. I've found a Behringer V-AMP PRO for pretty cheap, and I know a guy with a ampeg 4x12 cab with celestations(SP?) for pretty cheap, so I think I'll scrounge my cash and do it.
PS, I use a distortion pedal now, would I be able to run it still with the preamp? Sorry if i ask dumb questions, I'm a nOOb to the guitar game.

v amp pro... it's a toy compared to the engl 530. the ampeg cab for $125 sounds like it might be ok.

Well, offcoarse you can play your pedal with a pre-amp, but it kinda deafeats the purpose of having one

Yeah, told you I had dumb questions.
So for the $500 dollar range, should I buy a preamp and cabinet and use my power amp(I'm assuming I can hook a cab up to it) or should I get something like this?

If you already have a fuckin PA, heres an idea....buy a small amp (one that sounds fuckin nice....IT DOES NOT NEED ALOT OF VOLUME), buy a Shure SM57, buy a mic cord, and throw in maybe an eq, and there you have it, an assload of sound for a nice price, and have you been plugging directly into the mixer (no DI box or anything) because if you have you may have very well destroyed some very needed components.
