hey guys, help me out here
Hi,
I did a search before posting this so I did'nt find the answer I was looking for that way so I decided to ask you guys what you think.
Right now I've a lin6 spider 2 30, an uber metal pedal and a ibanez rg 370dx. Now I know this is a pretty moderate setup but I'm gonna upgrade soon as I can. But basically I've my own band. We play brutal death metal in the same style as devoument, decrepit brith, disgorge etc. So what I'm wondering is would you guys know the best way to tweak this setup to get the most brutal sound possible. I'm looking for something that is as close with this setup to devourment style brutal tone as possible. Like how do I tweak the mids, lows. highs etc on the amp and pedal to achieve this brutal tone.
Thanks in advance

I'll help. First, you may not need that pedal. You can determine this by comparing the the pedals tone on the amps clean channel to the amps distortion channels. If the clean channel with the pedal sounds better then the amp distortion then keep using the pedal ( this will not be the case with a better amp ). Otherwise use the amp distortion. Its different for every amp and the pedal combo. If the amp had tubes then you might be able to use the pedal to boost or color the amps distortion a bit. Don't try that with most solid state amps though.
As for EQ. Once you decide on the setup start with the EQs in the middle position. Adjust the Bass then Treb in alternating small increments up. Adjust those until they sound about right. Make sure you don't make the bass to boomy and the treb doesn't shatter glass. Now you are ready to adjust the Mids. Adjust them very slowly up and down until you find the tone that really cuts through the mix. Be careful not to scoop the mids ( lower the mids as low as they can go ) to much. Lots of scoop might sound kinda kickass while you are practicing in your room but it will sound thin in the live/band environment. Mids are the distinguishing purpose of a guitar in a band.
Once you have done this then play around and see if you can find new tones.
Good luck and welcome, Newb

Anyway, this setup right now is just temporary as currently I'm looking at some new amps. It's looking like a head and cab setup, either a randall tube driven or a peavy xxx. Although I was thinking for a while about the marshall mode 4, I think a couple of guys recommended that but then I heard it has the tendency to break down suddenly. As for the guitar, I've been looking at the BC Rich Zombie now for a while and I'm thinking thats the way I'm gonna gp. Anyway cheers man for your advice. Keep it brutal!
