I was looking at Kirk Hammett's models on the ESP page and realised that the KH2 costed around 1000 dollars more than the KH602. I was confused because the KH602 is made out of better wood, it is neck thru and has an Original FR system
The KH2 is made out of lesser quality of wood, is a bolt-on and has a licensed FR system yet it costed much more than the KH602 and i realised that it was because the KH2 has kirk hammett's signature on it which costs 1000 dollars more!

Which guitar would you pick if you had a choice?

I dunno if the KH-602's wood is necessarily "better" but the big difference is that the KH2 is ESP Custom Shop. Basically it's an ESP and not an LTD and I guess the detail is better and so forth.

Nothing worth a thousand dollars I'd say.

What says Maple is better quality than Alder? Do you even know the difference in tone and weight between these? Does a neck-thru always mean the guitar is better?

esp's and custom esp's are made in japan, they are FINE instruments at any price. obivously with esp and esp customs, you get higher quality material and parts and a MUCH better build quality. which means it should play and sound better.

another thing is that the type of wood does not normally say as much as you would think about a guitar, it depends on the quality of the wood. sure it could be maple, but what quality? it could be some shitty bargain basment piece of maple, hence the price. but with esp, your getting hand selected pieces of some of the best materials.

i also think you pay slightly more because esp is a step up from ltd, its like a prestige thing.

oya, kirk actually uses alder, so i guess even tho maple may be better, the higher up esps want to keep it authentic. it reminds me of how esp keep the emg hz4 in alexi laihos guitar because he uses it even tho its crap.

do the differences justify such a significant increase in price...? well personally i think hell no, but i can see why some tone buffs and metallica fan boys would get it.

and finally, the esp equivalent of the 602 would be $4000+...daymn



na, your mixed up, hes comparing the LTD KH602 and the ESP KH2, your comparing the LTD KH202 and the ESP KH2

maple has a much brighter sound than alder and is significantly heavier. Neck thru is better than a bolt on because is has much more sustain and the transfer of tone frm neck to body is much better. The only advantage of having a bolt on is that you can replace the neck but not in this case, ESP does not sell necks separately

I have a ESP KH-2 it is a kick ass axe I have LTD MH-1000 and a LTD DV-8 both are kick ass .ESP retains its value obviously more and is made in Japan but if you are on a Budget the LTD is a nice guitar .
My first choice is the real ESP but LTDs are very good.

If I could get either the ESP or LTD version of a Kirk , Id go with the ESP hands down. but the LTD isnt bad either.

Also i just noticed, in the japanese ESP site the ESP KH2 is neck thru. :P
