my dist. pedal has a level control and void control
so sometimes when i play certain songs, what i do is, i decrese the master volume (from my guitar) so due to the void setting, the less audible noise gets completely cut off and the end volume does not get affected due to the level control (does anyone else do this) but also the sustain gets reduced like hell
i am sure there must be an individual pedal or something for doing the same thing without reducing the sustain (what is it called)
i know i sound pretty lame but i m just a beginner (btw my pedal is -->ibanez sm7)

When you turn down the guitars volume,you are making a weaker output(results in less noise).What you are after is a noise suppressor;boss ns-2,isp decimator,rocktron hush ect.

Or a gate... set the threshold right and when a signal not strong enough to go through the threshold you set will just get cut off. Its a valuable piece of equipment.

Boss NS-2 about $90 US

bought my boss ns-2 used for $42 off of justin from through the eyes of the dead. haha. i love the ns-2.

but i do love my isp decimator pro rack G a little more... though it costed me like $300-ish new.

i use the ns-2 as more of a portible on the go noise suppressor. i can just through it in the guitar case and be on my way.
