I remember being in Game Stop and hearing someone asking why there wasn't any korn or slipknot on any Guitar Hero game. Maybe because they didn't want to over use the green button.

I'd like to see the drums to be honest. That song is hard as hell to play on drums just because unlike alot of metal bands nowadays all the fast parts the hihat or ride is being played for every snare and bass hit. Which is fast as shit.

Those are some of the greatest games of all time. Force Unleashed will be sort of similar to JE in its combat system, but definitely more complex, with lot's of different force powers and lightsabre moves you have to execute in real-time. It sadly won't have any of the RPG aspects of the above games. Oh, and it's coming on at least the PS3 and Wii as well.

I see a lot of people on this board talk about Silent Hill now and then, and one of you is even getting a fucking tattoo of a character in it. Whats the game like?

It's a survival horror game based on psychological horror rather than zombies or virus ridden people. The atmosphere and enemies look like something taken from an acid induced nightmare. The main draw of the games is the high level of creepiness and well written storylines. If you want to know more about it I suggest wikipedia.

Harping on this.
probably one of the best games i've ever played was Silent Hill 2. I've played all the ones since then.
It is a game like no other where it relies more on just.. being fucking.. creepy to the max. Numbers 2 is very subtle about it and doesn't go over board right from the start like silent hill 3 did.
The story behind silent hill is a very fucking complex one and I had to read some faq about just the story. (which was like a 10 page document.)
The game doesn't have much shit that jumps out at you.. or just gets cheap scares like Resident evil is so famous for. This game is much slower paced in alot of aspects but that is what makes it so creepy. There were times when i played silent hill 2 (at night, no lights with good headphones on) that i literally had to put it down. Its the shit nightmares are made of.

+1 but I enjoyed the story of SH3 more, but there's so much of SH2 to love. Like the scene in the hospital elevator where a gameshow is blaring over the PA inside the elevator. Creepy shit. I haven't played SH2 in years and I want to play it so bad.

Yeah.
I didnt' finish SH3 but i think i came close. I really liked Silent Hill 4. It took a very intresting twist of the standard gameplay by incorporating a little bit of first person. It makes you think of what it would be like to be locked in your apartment for a long time. I've had a dream or 2 that was soemthing similar to that idea.

SH4 was good, but compared to the rest it's kinda subpar. I did enjoy the ghosts you had to face that looked like they were suspended from strings... creepy. I found out recently that it actually wasn't intended to be a SH game, which explains why it's different from the rest. Still a solid game.

SH 4 just wasn't the same though. The whole first person concept was cool, but the gameplay was more action oriented, like a resident Evil, rather than psychologically terrifying. It was a good game, but it had nothing on the first 3. SH 3 was my personal favorite.

I play video games at parties often. Ironically I played SH2 2 months ago, but I was high and drunk so I didn't get too far.

Play them all the time. Everything from rock band to Call of duty 4.
The faq is on gamefaqs.com if i'm not mistaken. I could be wrong but maybe try searching for silent hill story or something to find it. It was a very long time ago when i read it. (Like 5 years ago)

Damn, looks like I'll have to pick it up. You're all raving about the sequel; should I skip the first one and just get SH2?

Sh1 is hard to find because it was made for the psone.
I suggest picking up the second, it has so much to offer as far as story, atmosphere, gameplay, and entertainment. SH2 has a lot of cool features, such as if mash the X button hard, you'll do a powerful melee attack. Sound also a important part of the game and one of the many creepy features of the game. Possibly my favorite of the series.
SH3 is actually the sequal to the first game as far as storyline, so you'll understand the plot alot better if you play SH1 before it. Sh3 is 2nd favorite.
I just hope you're used to the tank-like controls like in old school Resident Evil games but not as bad.

Oh yeah, I'm going to like this game. Just read more about it and it sounds like its right up my alley.
I read that its availble for the PC and is extended. Is it better or does it hurt the game?
Ugh, I hate those kind of controls. Very awkward.

I haven't played the pc version yet so I'm not sure if it hurts the story; I doubt it does. I might want to look for it when I get some money.
Yeah, the controls are kinda lame, but you'll forget about once you get deep into the game.
Oh and Pyramid Head is in Sh2, which is probably going to be my first tattoo. He's creepy as hell in the game, an absolute badass in the movie.

Nice description.
My new 360 sounds like a car idling in my room, and lets off about as much heat as one

Thanks.
Silent Hill V looks promising. From what I read, they're creating a better fighting system and it's going to use the over-the-shoulder view. Here's a teaser.
Sounds like you might want to keep an eye on your 360. The motherboard in mine fried up and I no longer have any game consule. I'll buy a new one as soon as I get another job. I might get a PS3 also, I not sure yet.

now that's the silent hill i know and love. It'd be tempting to buy a PS3 just for that.

Can't fucking wait.
4 definitely wasn't the best of the series. But i thought it had some really good ideas around it.
I like how the games are more or less about people who have done soemthing in the past that they just can't seem to remember. They seem like ordinary nice people but then realize that they've done something horrible.

How long did that take? I have mine very well ventilated... hopefully the fucking thing doesn't cook. I'm already regretting buying it... the AC/DC converter, unnecessary online capabilities and ports, ridiculous hard drive, terrible interface, obviously flawed cooling device(s), built in wireless bullshit... essentially just more things that are gonna break. My goddamn gray playstation doesn't have any cooling device, wireless or internet crap and the thing is still like new, after several thousands of playing, running sometimes for days on end, and being dropped several times in transport
Playstation and PS2 are still the best consoles to date imo.

It's the Pro model, with a 20 gig hard drive I think.
BTW, what is the purpose of 20 gigabytes of hard drive space? Can I download full games to it?

The ps2 had overheating issues out the ass when it first came out.
Its kind of hard to overheat your consoles nowadays anyways because if you block the ventilation and it gets hot it turns off. This happened allt he time with my ps2 beacuse i kept blocking the rear fans.

The Silent Hill movie is my favorite movie to date. You don't even have to be a fan of the games to get into the movie, but if you are it makes it even better.

I thought it was good and its the ONLY movie EVER that i've seen that made after a video game captured the video game in alot of ways.
We talked about this after it came out on here and i did i think a pretty big post on it.
But everything from the music, the visuals, and the different placements of the screen. It felt like I was playing the game without a controller.
I think if you haven't played the game it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but after playing the game I feel you would get what all is going on just that much more.
Or rather you would appreciate the details they moved from game to screen.

Sounds promising.
I think I'm going to go pick up the PC version of SH2 today if I can find a place close by that carries it.

Pc is the better choice for it i think. I have the pc one.
It was funny as hell the time i played the game all the way through for the first time i almost NEVER used any guns. I only used the board with the nail on it. (the first melee weapon). I thought the ammo was gonna be too precious and i'd save it for boss fights only. By the end of the game i had so much fucking ammo left over it was ridiculous.
Turns out i got like an A rating cause fired almost no shots hahaha.

The board with a nail in it always reminded me of that episode of the Simpson's Tree House of Horror with the monkey's paw. Aliens came to earth and Lisa wished for world peace. The next thing you see is Moe chasing an alien with board with a nail in it. Classic.
Here hoping you find the PC version.

Not coming out for the xbox?? >.<
I've played and beaten silent hill 1-4, and i've played a little bit of Origins, too. It's almost just as good as the regular console ones. I only didn't finish it because i had to give it back to blockbuster =(
I can't wait though......resident evil 5 and silent hill 5. That'll just be an orgy of zombies. I can't wait

Fuck yeah, if you're a fan you'll really love it. If you're not, it's still fuckin' scary.
So are most of the Silent Hill fans here siding with SH2? That's actually the only one I've played, and I can see why it's argued to be the best.
The score for that game is incredible and if anyone wants the whole thing just PM me or aim me.

I got the first one on my 12th birthday, when it was about a month old. God that scared the shit out of me. I remember when I was playing it then that I had some kind of virus, and I don't know if it was the medication I was on, but it made the experience so much more trippy. Whenever I took a break from the game, it felt like I was experiencing it in reality. Plus it was in the winter and it was constantly snowing, which added to the creepiness. I would also have dreams about the hospital with the nurses and such. Every time I'd wake up to end the dream then fall back asleep and the dream would continue where it left off.
Back then the graphics were great, sludgy as hell compared to the games of today.

Definitely have had that experience before playing games as a small kid.
Its an intresting thing about graphics. If its like snes or before graphics. Thats totally fine with me. But Playstation.. its like right when polygons came out that i just can't get over the graphics in alot of games to play the game, or even to have an experience worth standing the graphics.
I have indeed forced myself to play a game with bad graphics, suikoden 1 being one of them.
There is actually a really awesome guitar song at the beginning of the game that i love to death that i eventually ended up learning. (still know it)

Just got back from drill weekend and i played the sickest mod of Armed Assault ever.
I knew the marine corps was expiermenting with Operation Flashpoint back in the day but i just found out the fruits of those labors.
Its called Virtual Battle Space 2. Its using the game Armed Assault and completely revamping it to be as realistic of a military simulator as one can get. We played it on the network with like 15 other people and it was a blast.
Virtual battle Space 2
One of the officers who is running the program for the Marine Corps to transition to using this program hooked me up with the info on it and taught me how to run the servers and do admin work for it.
Also when we were first starting the program i decided to give my character some weapons in the intro level that teaches marines how to move the characters around (since i was bored cause i know this game forwards and backwards). So i went into the editor and hooked myself up with the sweetest weapons when the civilian contractor who i guess is one of the main guys doing this transition was like "where the hell did you get all those weapons on this level?"
I was like oh.. i just went into the editor and gave them to me, I used to write scripts for this game awhile back.
So in a kind of angry voice he was like.. well... go to the next level and play it how its supposed to so you get the training... and when you get out of the Marine Corps give me a call and i'll give you a job. haha
So basically i got offered to help with the production of this video game.
Btw i looked this game up when i got home and its 1500 bucks if you want to buy it! Somebody wanna buy me a copy? Hell i may try to get the officer in my unit to burn me a copy.......

Anyone remember Twisted Metal? God I miss playing that game for hours on end. Has anyone heard anything about a new TM for a next gen console?

Nope. Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. All of the new Rainbow six's suck in my opinion. Made it into a more arcade, call of duty 4 type game when before it was a strategic realistic "swat team" game that took some serious skill.

but it's fun
the new ones aren't as tactical i'll agree there, but the multiplayer is fun. much less run and gun than call of duty 4.
i do miss the planning though.

I don't play multiplayer. At least not often. Only time i ever play anything multiplayer its at friends houses, with games i don't own.
Multiplayer doesn't hold up well with me with occupying my time. It makes a game too basic most of the time. I'm much more of a story, thinking/strategic gaming person.
But when it is a shooter, has to be at least semi realistic. Call of duty games other than the first one, fail realism tests again and again... and again.

It's not a console game but whatever. Just purchased command and conquer the first decade. I love it how the installer installs all command and conquer games at once. I can't play them all. I have to finish one before I start the next But a great pack though

Well this whole thread really should be changed to video games in general. Hardly anybody talks about strickly console games.
Yeah the old C&C games were the shit. I played them all the way up to Red Alert 2.
I actually thought about installing the first C&C game yesterday. i might here again soon.

Some of my favs:
Final Fantasy 7 (Fav game EVER!)
Final Fantasy 8
Metal Gear Solid
Resident evil
Goldeneye
Tomb Raider (Although too hard for me, still great)
Sonic 2
Mario(basically all stars, mario world, mario 64)
Time Crisis
Die Hard Trilogy
Chrono Trigger
United Squadron
Gran Turismo
Street Fighter 2
Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Zelda 3: A Link to the past
Pokemon Red/Blue
The Terminator(Genesis)
Goldenaxe
Nothing can top Final Fantasy 7, its that damn good, more than just a game to me. Notice I havent put any next gen games, I havent got into any of them properly yet, nowadays they seem to focus on making great graphics without focusing on great or original gameplay, unless thats just me. I am however looking forward to the next metal gear solid.

Alot of hit and miss on some of those.
Final Fantasy 7 is one of the most over rated rpgs of all time. Its good but its not that good. Loaded with so many story loop holes that still to this day it doesn't make logical sense with character backgrounds. Zelda 3 sucks too, its just like every other zelda game. Its ok but then again its over rated, and repetative as hell. Half the zelda games are that exact damn game. The original resident evil was indeed pretty sick. The remake is much better although. It captures in my mind all the essences that the original game tried to but lacked the ability to, due to technological shortfalls at the time.

I don't play in them but a lot are held at this game shop a few towns over where they give store credits to the winner. This one guy actually bought an xbox 360 and a few games with store credits he won. The world champion I heard is from New Hampshire and every now and then he'll come down, pwn a bunch of noobs, and walk out with a bunch of new video game stuff won purely off of store credits.

I'm not saying its not good by any stretch of the imagination. Nor am i denying that the epicness of the game is quite satisfying.
There are just quite a few loop holes in the story that always pissed me off.

A little holes in a story doesn't make a game overrated imo. I don't really remember any holes, but its been a couple years since I've played it.
But from what I hear Crisis Core answers a lot of questions.

Theres more to my reasoning for it being over rated.
There are plenty of rpgs that do much bigger and more meaningful things in my opinion than FF7. I think FF7 just came out whenever the majority of the people who claim its the greatest game ever were at the age where a GOOD game could make that kind of impact. Alot of people quote Chrono trigger i think for the same reason. Thats an extremely good game but its got its faults as well. I used to quote it as being hte best rpg ever as well till i reasoned it out. I can beat that game in 14 hours and do every single thing in the game.
I would say FF3/6 is leaps and bounds better than 7 in many ways. More memorable characters. Much better and coherent story plots. A hell of alot more characters especially USEFUL characters.

I do admit its a very manipulative magic/equipment system that defnitely can allow customization of each character with different personal styles of gameplay.
Although FF10 and FF12 system is better. Especially 10 by a long shot. Final Fantasy 8s system was pretty good but it had flaws that pissed me off. For instance i mean if you wanted to use magic it would reduce whatever it was junctioned to because you'd have less of that magic, thats pretty dumb. It makes you not want to use magic ever.
I've been playing Rogue Galaxy and it has a pretty good system as well. Its similar to FF12s system except to unlock different stuff you have to have like various items and what not.
I mean FF7 is definitely a HIGHLY influencial game no questions asked. The music overall was superb, a fairly complex main character, and a pretty good overall story. It lacked in number of cities and various big places that were enjoyable to explore. I hated the number of random battles there were. Its like every 10 steps its another battle. Also alot of the monsters were really ridiculous (too comical) but then again i've played numerous rpgs where the enemies were commonly stupid and almost just completely a joke.

I pretty much believe it. I've said it a hundred times so i won't go too far ,but the quality sandbox that you get out of this game is well worth the money spent.
I watched the ign video review and i would agree a hundred percent that for the same price as EVERY OTHER GAME this game has the best value. Hundreds of hours of fun with the majority of it not even being stuff you have to do rather just going around and making shit up as you go.
I can't wait to get in a helicopter and fly through the downtown areas, thats always fun.

i watched the vid review.

My buddy owns a game store right up the road from me, so he's holding me one. He would've sold it to me today but he hasn't got the shipment in yet.
I've never been too crazy over GTA games really, but this one looks fucking awesome.

Just picked it up from my local GameStation after waiting in the midnight release line for a whole hour. Didn't even have to have it pre-ordered.
Time for some fucking GTA!

I'm having to get back into the controls all over again.
Didn't take till like the 4th mission for me to start getting pissed off at the control and other standard GTA stuff. You get such a satisifaction of beating some of these missions just because how agrivatingly hard they are sometimes.

Does it deserve the 10/10 rating so far?

I got it. Can't play it until after work.
I don't see how multiplayer will work on this game. Seems like it would be a colossal mess.
