Question ibanez

Has anyone used pedals by ibanez
i recently bought the sm7 by them and its only ok
but the porblem is that i have a pretty low end guitar for sometime and am not sure as to the low quality is due to the guitar or the pedal
so if anyone else has this pedal plz tell me if i should throw it or keep it

http://www.ibanez.com/accessories/spec.asp?m=26

also what's the difference b/w distortion pedal, a stomp box, and an overdrive

I cant give you any advice on the pedal but overdrive pedals are usually used to boost the output on an amp(preferably a tube amp) and a distortion pedal is usually just a pedal that has enough gain to stand on its own instead of the gain on the amp. A stomp box is any single pedal regardless of what effect.
Just curious what are the EQ settings on your amp and what type of amp are you using?

The sm7 is one of the shitter distortion pedals, and probally the shittest is the ibanez range.

I got a Ibanez LF7 pedal, but i just use it for the transister sounds, its not very useful for anything else.

I had one years ago when all I had was a silvertone guitar and amp. It was great as a first distortion pedal, but if you have a decent amp, it's a waste of money. With the tone controls on it (low and high, no mid), it has a very hard time staying dominant in the mix. At my first gig I used mine. Even with the mids dimed on the amp I was using, it still sounded extrememly scooped. So, if you have it, you just might want to search around and get an amp that has enough onboard gain and avoid using this pedal in a live situation.

In that case, the low quality is a combination from all sides;Guitar, amp, pedal.

No, but if you have inferior equipment it makes it more discouraging to play. Like a friend of mine that's a fisherman says--When you teach someone to fish, regardless of their age, give them decent equipment that's not going to break or tangle constantly or they'll get discouraged and quit. ---Same goes for musical instruments.

I was reading about Neil Young's guitars last night while listening to his "Harvest moon" album and he said he used 2nd hand equipment a lot and one of his acoustics has terrible action, a warped neck, and goes out of tune frequently, but it's still one he liked playing.
He also said that even though he had several identical amps one of them had a specific sound that when set on a certain volume would sound different than a number higher or lower. The other amps wouldn't get that same sound. So you might try tweaking and playing around with your equipment and maybe you can get something that pleases your taste.
