Line 6 thread
I hadn't found anything using the search so I thought I'd try to get a discussion going on line 6. What are your thoughts on the quality and performance of the spider and vetta products? I also need some good eq settings for my spider head if anyone has some info on that. Cheers in advance.

While i agree that the Vettas and certain rack equipment are pretty good shit, i hardly think line 6 deserves its own discussion thread.

I tried a Spider II HD head once at Guitar Center...I couldn't get it to sound as good as I wanted it too, but it was OK, nothing special.

i own a spider 2 half stack. i actually love it. it took me a while to get the tone set up right to give me the sound i wanted, but now that ive figured it all out it sounds as good as anything else. its probably the best sounding solid state out there. but i wouldnt pick it over any high gain tube amp.

I think that if you know what you are doing, you can make ANY amp sound halfway decent. Oh yeah, Angry Hobbit, I beg to differ, Randalls are the best sounding high gain solid states.

I have a Spider I somewhere standing around in my basement. It's a good amp to start with. The spider II I hate with a passion. Although they say the 2 sound the same. The vetta's kick ass. The flextone series are also prett ygood. I have a flextone III it covers the gain department very nicely. The hd 147 is the shit IMHO really tight high gain with very little feedback and very direct. And I always loved those little pod's. It's amazing how much tone you can get out of the red bean shaped device

When the Spider 2 became a production model, the Randall Cyclone took it to a corner and made it its bitch. It said, "You mine now boy" and proceeded to stick its three-pronged power cord into the Spider's cord jack. The Spider screamed for a guard to intervene, but they just stood by and laughed at its plight.
And after the Cyclone was done, for the fun of it the guards found the biggest baddest solid-state amp in the whole ward, the Ampeg VH-140, and we've never heard from the Spider again

Firm is to tits like gas is to cars. They don't work without it.

i have one too. You can get pretty much any tone out of it... i can recreate slayer, queens of the stone age, as i lay dying... and some crazy industrial types. BUT, the eq knobs do almost nothing... they all have breakoff points like if you turn it to about 11 oclock, its like you dimed it, and if you turn it past, then it cuts off and adds again.... fucking gay. And when you turn the master volume, its silent from 7 to about 8, and then just starts pumping in the volume... so its awkward to control. And the last thing that pisses me off, is that the different amp models respond differently to the channel volume knob... so when you change models, volume goes FUCKED... Oh, and since its digital, most distortion or fuzz pedals wont do much in changing your tone... so youre quite restricted to using the amp's tone, or lack thereof...
It has way too much bass in all of the higher gain models... so you cant get that thrash tone like new lamb of god stuff. Oh, and on certain volumes, it gets realllly nasaly and wierd and sounds like you have water in your ears or something...
Right now, i'm shopping for a little tube combo because this thing doesnt have the oompf that im looking for, but if you want a cheap ass SS stack with pretty blinky lights, this thing is probably one of your better choices.

If your amplifier rig had 1800 watts like mine, then you would'nt have that problem. I sure don't

with the spider 2 every channel is so different. If you fuck with them enough you really can get a very brutal tone out of it. One day i spent like 2 hours messing with it and i swear to god i got it to sound EXACTLY like that crazy BURN THE PRIEST tone. the tone they used on those albums before they were lamb of god sounded amazing.
