Guitar Pro 5

Hi metal people!

I have Guitar Pro 5... is awesome... the Realistic Sound makes the guitars sound like the real thing, excellent!!! I've been tabbing Iron Maiden and Tierra Santa on Guitar Pro 4... I was thinking to update all my tabs to Guitar Pro 5, so I need to update a lot of effects and specially a lot of palm mute... that means once I proceed the tabs will sound sucks on MIDI.

I'm telling you this because I need your opinion, cause if I update the tabs to gp5 there will be a lot of people that don't own Guitar Pro 5 yet, who won't see the tabs. By the other hand, the people having gp5 has the oportunity to see my gp4 tabs but because of the new Realistic Sound the palm mute sounds sucks because I tabbed them based in MIDI sound.

So, please tell me your opinion, should I proceed to update the tabs or should I keep tabbing in gp4 format? Or maybe MetalTabs could add the option to store both versions...

(I know, my english sucks!)

naat.

I got it, and to be honest, I don`t really hear that much of a difference. The real sound thing is really all that nice to me. This version looks a little bit more like powertab though.

I downloaded it, and I personally don't think that the "real" sounding guitars sound very "real" to me at all. In addition to that, the interface is more of a pain in the ass to actually learn a song with. I prefer gp4 by far.

Why would they.. I hate scrolling endlessly in powertab. Besides, in GP5 you have a choice of a few views.

Powertab is sometimes fairly annoying where it mixes all the different tracks into the one page whereas gp you just show one at a time. Or maybe you can do that on powertab aswell but i hardly ever use it so i dunno.

i have it too, and i must say that this version is much better than the previous ones, finally you're able to get a good overview of the different tracks.

GP5 is pretty good, though not too much different from GP4. The Real Sound Engine is okay, but seems to get bogged down and clippy at times (not always). The drums actually sound much better with the RSE turned off as they kinda get washed out and pushed to the back when it's on. And distorted guitars tuned to standard E are so bass heavy that you don't even need to tab a bass track. What other programs are there out that do a better job? I'd be curious to try them out.

I've always prefered GP's layout to PT, in GP its clearer to me, and you can set it to multitrack view without the score so it looks more like PT if you want anyway.

Drums in GP5

I agree, the drums sounds like shit, sounds better in MIDI...

So like, it seems that there's a lot of people that prefers Guitar Pro 4, well I'll keep tabbing in gp4 until everyone get a copy of gp5. One thing I don't like from Guitar Pro 5 is that it consumes a lot of RAM... sometimes reaching 140 MB... geez, you need at least 512 MB in RAM.

Well, I could send you my copy of gp5, but it takes like 166 MB, tell me if there's a way to send it via e-mail, Yahoo only supports 10 MB attachs; I could send it in winrar pieces, but it'll take like 24 parts.

It seems is gonna take a minute per MB to upload the package and is about 166 MB, so I don't have much time right now, I'm at the office and I'm out in 40 minutes, so tomorrow morning I'll send it... stay tuned, dudes!

See ya!

I like the wah wah and the "Human Playing" option...now I can finally delete PowerTab which is - in my opinion - the most annoying TAB program the world ever seen.

I think GP5 is pretty decent. The real sound stuff isn't all that good on some songs, but it's works on a few pretty well. I think the layout of GP is muuuuch better than PT too. It's good that you can import PT's to GP5 also, but it getsthe timing wrong sometimes. Overall I think GP5 is great

Otiz, what kind of changes have you had to make between GP4 and GP5? I haven't noticed any yet when I try them in GP5. Like I said, the RSE drums are the only drawback I've noticed so far. Well, that and the clipping. I've got 512 of RAM, so I don't think that's the problem, but the RSE CPU in the bottom goes red whenever it goes over about 60. That's when the clipping and static occurs. And that's with only two guitar, one bass, and one drum track.

Yeah, I agree, the drums sounds like shit, or maybe too low on volume. To update from gp4 to gp5 you need to specify now the palm mutes. Palm mutes on MIDI are not necessary but now with the RES of gp5 you need to put them.

I agree with Adrian_15, PowerTab is a shit... PT has just one thing better than GP, the 'export to ASCII'. With PT you can export all the tracks (instruments) in the same ASCII file, in GP you can only export one track per file.

gp5 is total shit, RSE eventually actually lags tracks when multiple ones are playing together so that one track could be a minute into the song, while another is 2 seconds ahead/behind. At least that's how it is on my computer. Also there's way too much bass on everything. Keyboards were almost inaudible when I converted one song from gp4 to gp5. The only upgrades i realy noticed was a little effects thing (wah pedal) and scrolling. Good job gp5. Wee.

Yeah, happens to me and it's not when playing GP4 files. And I know it's not my computer cause I've got more than enough for the program. I've noticed the bass issue as well, especially with Distortion Guitar, so I stick with Overdriven. It's the RSE CPU, you'll notice a % number in the bottom right corner. More likely with multiple tracks, but it does tend to lag or clip when too much is going on or something. It's still much better than PT though, without a doubt.

Well I've found I like to use (if I got two guitar tracks) Distortion guitar #1, Hard sound #2 and Distortion giutar #2, Hard sound #2.

Hard sound 2 is actually called wahwah but sounds nothing like it.

Problems with gp5???

So, what exactly is the problem you get with gp5? Maybe there's a problem with the registry... well, in my case I haven't uninstalled gp4... now, I have both in my computers and I don't have any problems. Maybe you should try install it with another windows' user in your PC, I mean another profile. Question... do you have a Macintosh? A friend told me that he had some problems with guitar pro 5 on his MAC.

At least we all will be able to tab all Maiden discography during our time spent in prison (and for ones who know how much CDs they have can understand how much time would it take - and I guess for that project we will have to give up eating drinking shiting and sleeping)

I got my full version for a 'shop' called Limewire, its just a small shop down town.

Its fucking awesome! im going to export some hardout solo and send it to someone and say i played it. Im seriously sure it will work haha.

The only problem i have found so far is that the drums are too quiet, the kick tom has no punch in it either.

Everyone download this: http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.ph...eeb693dad6e6e8d

Unofficial presets by some guys from MSB! They did really great job. There is flanger and other cool things.

First: close Guitar Pro
Make copy of your original presets.ini file (in case of that you don't like their presets) in the RSE folder then erase with this one.

Run GP and in the distortion, overdrive, drums menus you will see their new presets. That sound is much better!

According to this link the first update (5.1) will address many issues, and will even allow you to create your own RSE sounds/banks. A couple of new drum kits will be included, too. Can't fuckin' wait!

Yes, you're right. That does help some when using the RSE, but the drums still sound so much better with it off. Not that I don't like this program, I just look forward to what else they'll continue to come up with.

I played In Flames stuff on it, w/ the distortion guitar on electric guitar #2 and I think it's sound #2, the song "touch of red" and I swear the guitars sound so good on some parts.
