Dunno. I hate the beaters on mine, but I can't find any that I do like. The closest I've come is the hard rubber Iron Cobra ones, but they wedge up every now and then on the head. I think it's because the sweet spot is so far away from the head that they're going over centre too far.

I must be honest and say at the moment I hate the fucking things and I'm actively looking at getting something else. I know many people will shit themselves at that news, but I don't need to play at breakneck speed (190bpm at the most) and any other pedal worth its salt should do that, but hopefully not make my bass drums sound like someone's hitting them with a teaspoon.

Yeah, I know. And everybody I say it to tells me the same thing.

Thing is, I don't like the feel of them; I don't like the way they make my bass drums sound; I find them too quiet; they cost me a LOT of money that I could spend on other stuff; I don't play heel/toe or flat foot or anything.. the list of reasons I don't need them goes on and on.

The biggest problem I find is the volume, though. We don't play many gigs, and like most bands have to spend a lot of time just rehearsing. I haven't got triggers or mics, so I have to make a choice between playing so quietly I've got no idea what I sound like, or hitting thrm extra hard which obviously uses too much effort and restricts what I can do with them.

At the moment I feel like I could sell them, buy an Iron Cobra or Eliminator, and still have enough left over for the bus ride home.

Well, you just need to tinker around until you get them the way you want them. There is no magic setting, although you'll find most people prefer the springs done up somewhere between tight and all the way.

I used to use some Gibraltar beaters on mine which are pretty similar to the Pearl quad ones, but I found they made the pedal feel quite top heavy. They sounded ace, but I couldn't get over about 180bpm with them because of the effort required to physically move them.

But what is the problem you're having? You said you've come on nicely in the time you've been playing, so what's wrong?
