Hey I have a good question

When band record,play ect. ect. do they sing real faint but have the volume way up? that would make sense to not damage your voice screaming your lungs out or do they actually scream loud and have the volume normal.

this question is in regards to black and death metal and and everything else

Some bands it depends on, like Six Feet Under pussy it, and turn the volume up while barnes whispers shit in the mic, and some are just br00tal lol. Do how ever you see fit, just know whispering is for pussies =) lol jk.

have you seen behemoth or meshuggah studio vids? They scream their asses off. VERY LOUD! The input and output recording volumes have to be set according to the singers vocal vol. If your going to be extremely loud then the input vol would be low, and output medium. I hope that makes a bit of sense, im not great with using proper terms.

You can make any vocal volume as loud as you desire by adjusting the gain and volume. Gain makes more volume than the volume knob. Cradle of Filth whispers a lot in his songs especially in the new album but they put gain, volume, and fx to it to make it sound louder than the music which sounds really creepy. Although you can adjust vocal to any volume you can always tell when someone is actually screaming his vocals, singing or singing faintly or whispering whatever volume it is on. For example in the album Dusk and Her Embrace Dani does extreme vocals and you can tell but yet it is quiters than Sarah's and she only sings in faint vocals.

When my vocalist records he screams at the same volume when playing live.

When i record in the studio I project like a mother fucker to make the vocals sound very powerful and have that strong presence.

As far as playing live I do the same thing except I swing the mic stand at people I dont like during breakdowns. Hence Masokist doesnt play many shows because we are banned from 3 different venues, including a bar.

For swinging mic stands at people. Promoters of shows banned us because I get really violent, throw water bottles at people who are sitting down on the chairs, and for bringing alcoholic beverages at venues that dont sell alcohol.

Indeed. Next time you see someone sitting down at a show, you might try to use the mike stand as a throwing spear and impale the unashamedly boring type. Will require some practice though.

As for studio volume, I feel that when you are aiming at an audience - don't get the wrong idea now - then you should give them everything you've got. That's what great art is all about.

We used to do stupid songs aswell as death metal kinda stuff but then everyne was like "haha your the band that does that funny song" and we want to take things seriously aswell as be funny so we cut the stupidness to be serious.
