MT-2 or GT-8
My amps distortion is terrible and I need a new pedal. I would like to get a good amp but I cannot so I'm forced to buy a pedal for distortion. I like loud and clean distortion like the sounds in neoclassical metal. Which one gives better distortion. A MT-2 or GT-8?

you complain your amp has terible distortion, yet you think the MT2 doesn't have terible distortion?
Get the GT-8. There's so much stuff on it, and you can actualy get good tones out of it. Besides, there's a MT-2 effect on it annyway, so if you'd want it

Maybe he should get a job, and maybe he should be cool and get a real setup. I'm talking Hartke cabinets, Marshall Head or Lee Jackson Designed Head (Blue Voodo anybody?), and a nice dunlop wah. There's nothing like real AMP distortion. Unless he gets a boutique pedal he isn't gonna get great distortion. Most of the cheaper ones are too muddy.

its an alright amp, definetely not as good as i thought it was though, the cleans real nice, the rythm channel sucks a bit but the lead channel sounds pretty good, but it just doesnt have the smoothness i want or the warmth.
anyways i have a boss gt6 wid the mt2 in built and it really sucks, just save some money dude, or get an old valvestate combo, dirt cheap

Theres no contest between the two. If you have a change of heart and/or fortune get a new amp. But untill then get the GT-8. But you can probably get a Crate shockwave for less than you're going to pay for the GT-8. And with a cheap cabinet it wouldn't be that far over what you're paying.

It's not that I can't afford but there are simply no good amps in my place. If you buy an amp the distortion and sounds will sound awful or too weak in the music shops around my place. So getting a good pedal is a must if you want decent sound. This is sad but the best amp they have is a Cube 60 which I bought and needs pedal modifications. It is too weak. I'm asking GT-8 because that's probably the only good thing they got. I think I'll be able to get some decent sound with my EX400 guitar, GT-8 and Cube 60. Anyone here have a GT-8 and can give some idea of how it sounds?

i have a gt6 and it sounds very digital, the distortion settings are pretty crap, but the effects sound amazaing for a pedal and go well with any amp

It realy depends on how much time you spend tweaking this thing.
Most distortion settings sound very digital at first, but If you take the time and try to figure it out, theres some realy good tones at your disposal.
As good as it gets concerning solid state IMO.

I do have a job so I can help pay out with my college funds. I'm a little hesitant on getting a good amp if I find one because I had a bad experience with a so called good amp. It was Trace Elliot C100. The guy in the shop kept bragging of how amazing it is and when I got it I wasn't satisfied at all with it. So I ended up selling it really cheap to my guitar tech and getting a Cube 60 which sounded better from it. The dunlop wah your talking about isn't it a pedal and what is a boutique pedal?

He seems a little confused to me A Boutique pedal are higher end pedals,Mesa Bottle rocket for example,Wich generally are much better than the usual Metal zone, master, uber,DOD whatever low end high gain pedal you can think off.

Bottomline: Don't trust music shop employees.
Even tough there's this guitar shop in town that I like and were the people are quite nice, they do say some stupid shit now and then:
"No, we don't have any tube poweramps in the store. Nobody plays tubes nowadays, because solid state is much beter. Did you try out the Spider II yet? "
yup...

Getting a job that pays well enough is harder than it sounds. I got lucky, and have found one that I can work enough hours without being totally exhausted, and earn enough to pay for my expenses. Yes, sounds good in theory, but I'm about to lay down a shitload of money for a decent amp and cabinet.
Get a Rocktron Silver Dragon. $120, new. Now stop asking questions that have already been answered, and stop being a dick about it. Christ.

they're just trying to make a buck. minimum wage sucks, and if they don't sell, then thats what they're making.
it helps to know the people you're dealing with... i'm buds with like 5 people that work at my local guitar center... they're good friends, they always hook me up with ridiculous deals and they never bullshit me. ( not that they could anyways. )
then you get guys like derek at rsa that pretty much only has good stuff to sell. so he doesnt even have a chance to bullshit you.
you have to have an idea of what you're looking for. if they make a lowsy suggestion... don't be afriad to say "nah man, i'm on a budget, but i'm not looking for crap gear". because most the time, they just see a young kid and assume he has no idea of whats going on.

Yeah, one of the guys I know very well at my local shop (known the guy for YEARS) tried suggesting the SpiderII, and I just looked at him and said "Thanks, Jim, I didn't know you thought I was that much of an idiot."
They tried talking me out of a BV120. And suggested the SpiderII. Thats a different story, though.
