I am in the market for a new power amp and I was hoping to find a VHT 2/90/2 but there are currently none on ebay at the moment but I do see there are quite a few mesa boogie 2:90 power amps so I wanted to see if anyone here owns one and if so how does it sound? I have heard the the low end can get kind of mushy (as is the case with most mesas). I plan on buying an Engl e570 preamp as my next purchase so I need a power amp that will do it justice.

have you thought about getting an engl poweramp?

I have thought about it but Im affraid they are a bit pricey and seeing as how I will be spending quite a bit on the preamp I think spending less money a tube power amp is better for my situation.

you were willing to pay all that money for a vht 2/90/2 or a mesa 2:90... but not for an engl?

i think someone here picked up a 100w engl poweramp for not much a lil while ago... i beleive it was necro butcher?

just hunt on places like ebay... they pop up occasionally... another good source is harmony central classifieds... browse through those. you can even post a "want to buy" classified stating what you're interested in.. it works.

those VHT poweramps are actually pretty decently priced. the mesas and ENGLs are more expensive i believe.

Can get the VHTs on ebay for $700 easy.

they're pretty much in the same league. mesa and vht cost about the same. engl is right there too. the new ones might cost a couple hundred more. but once they hit the used market they chill out a little. and the older engl poweramps go for hella cheap too.

yeah i picked up a ENGL power amp for mega cheap


it was probably half the price of any VHT or MESA preamp, then again i did get really lucky with that deal

cant wait to finally use it with my 530 when it comes
