hey, i hope you guys can help me out. i wanna speed up my finger picking. do you guys know of any exercises that can help me out? i tried serach but i couldnt really get what i was looking for. i wanna build up speed, ive been working on it a little by starting off really slow and progressing up and trying to keep that level, but that doesnt seem to be working for me.

there's probably not any good exercise you could do besides play. i find its easier to play fast when i play along with fast music than if I'm just practicing solo so try playing along with metallica-whiplash or something simple like that

oh yeah, and lubricate your fingers.. rub the greasy gunk off the side of your nose with your fingertips and instead of wiping in on your trousers play your bass.. trust me on that one

Wrong.

Start slow with a metronome until you nail the bpm perfectly and then speed up slightly and gradually build it up, until your stamina is perfect in that speed or bpm or however your doing it, and then progress to higher speeds. Then take a scale or a riff and play the notes double so twice on each note and then speed that up.

There are tons of ways of building up finger speed, but you certainly dont start out fast, bad technique of gradual buildup.

If you play with your right hand fingers bent straighten them out. You want to play with the joint of the knuckle strumming without the finger joint. Don't allow them to curl. I practiced straightening my fingers for a couple of weeks and string skips and SPEED got better.

Use three fingers and do the "three finger gallop technique."

Tattered is dead on. I'dd add string skipping when working on your scales to build up speed. That you can work on that at the same time. Make the transitions as clean as possible with no fret noise and no clicking noise from fretting the string before plucking or playing it...That helped me out a bit

greasing up the fingers with greasy food (KFC best option here) or using anal lube would help i can imagen that, but good luck replacing strings every two weeks or so, cause all that shit will fuck them unless you clean everything for the next 15 mins after. i know sure as hell that i don't have that much money to spare. just do the exercises.
