anybody know whats the difference between les paul standard and les paul custom

Could anybody explain which one if either is a better metal or rock guitar , I know alot of you guys dont like les pauls , i could dig it , But I like them , Im trying to decide which if any one them is the one more suited for hard rock/metal
I know pagey and slash use a standard , Zakk uses a custom as does John sykes .

they're different types, customs are more expensive, got a different headstock and different fretboard binding.

sometimes customs have a different finish like quilted maple etc. some have 3 pu's, you name it. the customs come in a lot of different styles.

personally, I'de rather have a custom because they have a higher value, even if you try to sell them second hand. and older Les Paul is still on my 'wish' list because the newly build don't quite reach their quality. I'de rather pay 3000 bucks for a 40 years old LP then a brand new one...

They're both good rockguitars, for metal I'de rather get something else, like a superstrat. But, you can play metal on a Les Paul, it's just whatever you prefer. I'de still rather have a custom then a standard.

I think standards have rosewood fretboards, customs have ebony.

Why not? I wouldn't say Epi, but Gibsons are very nice guitars.

not much better. they're more of a prestige object with nicer tops. nice to hang on your wall, not so nice to spend heaps of money on. good collectors item I guess. if you can keep onto it for 50 years that is.

Hey I've been wondering on the Supremes, if you look on the back, there's absolutely no cavity of anything.....why?

don't know. looks better and there's more wood, which kinda equals more tone/sustain in case of les pauls. (i/e a light epi sounds crap whilst a heavy ass lp std has tons of sustain and tone)

just a prestige thing I guess, the supremes are masterpieces but IMO not worth their pricetag.

Cuz I saw the Trivium guitarist w/ a LP supreme, and he has EMG's in there. I was wondering how he would do all those changes, and how would he change the battery for it, cuz I didn't see anything on the back side.

fuck them for having supremes. they don't deserve them

they probably had them customized, put emg's in there and made an extra cavity under the pu to hold the battery.

I'de say putting EMG's in a supreme is pure rape. Putting EMG's in a new gibson standard, ok. putting emg's in a '68 custom, heeeeelll no

A supreme is just a custom with different inlays, diferent bnding, a figured top, and it's got tone chambers. Where-as the custom is one solid hunk of mahogany with a maple cap.
