I've seen one with 36, and there are basses with 40 frets.

Hell, yeah! I went to one of my old guitar teachers' gigs with him and he had some shit in the CD player where this guy was sort of dueling with an electric guitar and a violin... he said the guy had 36 frets. I think it might have been Uli Roth, but I might be wrong. |

The highest i've heard of is 30 but obuiosly there can be more frets.

Yeah, like everyone else said. They have 40+ fret guitars, but many times how each fret is tuned is different when you get to the point of 'alot of frets'

and ofcuz caparrison makes 27 fret guitars without it being a custom (wich most 24 + fretguitars are i think)

Yes, Caparison offer a stock guitar w/ 27 frets (hence my name) Its the "Horus" and "Applehorn" models. Up until recentlly Hamer also offered a 27 fret model, the "Californian" (which was the first production 27 fret guitar available) but it is no longer in production. Tagima from Brasil also have 27 fret models available. Washburn used to make a 29 and a 36 fret that you can find on ebay sometimes, but they are rare and pricey. The same with a company called Rand used to have 27 fret models but they are also no longer available. 17th Street guitars also makes a 30 fret guitar, the uli jon roth model, but its currentlly being redesigned (they are making me one but with a different body style) E.S.P. Japan has the Kiko Luiereo model, basically a mirage model w/ 27 frets, its cool, but like $4900! There arent too many stock guitars out there with extended frets but most companies custom shops(E.S.P., Ibanez, Jackson) will make them, im waiting on my 27 fret custom framus Spitfire!

The only I think would be cool is like the kxk guitar from nile a 27 inch scale neck with 22 fretsm, like a baritone. I'm in love with that spear V
