Rhoads RR3 or RX10D?

I've been looking at both and I can't really see much difference... The RX has 24 frets rather than 22, but that's not a huge factor for me. The RR3 is cheaper but I'm sort of drawn to it because it has 2 volume knobs and a tone control, where the RX has only a master volume control. The pickups are different, but I think they are both made for mid-range priced guitars. Besides I would probably upgrade those anyway before too long. The tremolo system is the same... I'd rather have a Floyd, but I guess if it works it works. I could get the RR3 for around $400 or the RX10D for $550. I'm confused as to what makes the RX worth $150 more...and I figured we have our share of self-appointed experts here that may be of assistance

Oh yeah...specs...
RR3:

RX10D:
http://jacksonguitars.com/gear/gear...no=RX10D_Rhoads (the one I'm looking at has 24 frets)

are we looking at the same guitar there? that one has 22 frets, and no jackson RR has 24 unless its from the custom shop (or you switch the neck out)
if you wanna know the difference click on the specs, its there for a reason

Really, would you mind telling me the model of that RR? I know some RR models with 24 frets but they are pretty expensive. (I hope the one you mean isn't the JSRR)

i think i know the one your talking about. the one on ebay that has 24 frets and is a rx10d?
thats weird
i dont know what it is if its not a rx10d, unless someone modded it to have 24 frets, but that would be kinda hard.

How about getting neither. Buy a nice DC Carvin on Ebay for probably the same price with better playability and USA made.

Shut up before I stick my dick in your ear. And I don't blame him for suggesting carvin's they're good quality instruments. (oh yea and there is no 24 fret one) he would have to mod it to get a 24 fret one...unlike a carvin)

Yeah, it does look like it would be a bitch reaching the highest frets.

I don't know about you guys, but the only reason that I like 24 frets is because its easier to reach the notes lower then the 24th but moderately inacessable for a neck that is 22 or less. I would get the one with 24 but I looked at the picture and it looks like a goofy neck(maybe it's just me). I have played some of those before and realy, you don't need the 24 frets unless you plan on producing ear peircing and somewhat annoying solos. The frets on all levels are mostly easy to reach on the Jacksons. And in my oppinion, the cheaper one looks nicer. Looks do account for something, you don't wanna play a guitar that looks like a piece of shit.

I thought the cheaper one looks nicer too. That's really what I'm leaning towards, if I do end up getting a Rhoads. I just figured there's probably a reason it's cheaper... maybe the pickups. But I'd replace those when I get the money anyway...

I have an RX10D and it's served me well.

The major differences are the pickups and controls. It really depends on what you want. Personally if you can get the RX10D in one of the non-solid colors that'd be the best (solid colors on the rx10d models = eww...my rx10d has lightning sky graphic).

But the RR3 is "more widely used" if that's of any effect.

That's all I could see as far as differences. I would rather have more controls to give me more control over my tone. And the pickups...are they really a whole lot better on the RX10D? Like I said I would probably get new pickups anyway when the funds are available if the pickups are as bad as some reviews have said. Probably Dimebuckers, or Bill Lawrence (what Dime actually used), or maybe EMG's. Does yours sill have stock pickups? If so, how do they sound?

Yeah, I still got stock.

They're a bit thin on the bass side, but definately usable. I'm in no immediate need to change them. It works good for thrash/metalcore/swedish melo death sounds. If you want UBER BR00TAL DETH METUHL you might wanna switch out the PUs. (that's what my Les Paul is for anyway...)

Honestly i'd go for the RR3 in one of the transparent colors or the swirl. I don't like the absence of a tone knob on my Rx10d (then again, that's why my custom Ran is currently being built :P)

I don't really have time to save up... my guitar is taking a shit on me at the moment. I'm not really commiting to buy a Rhoads anyway, it's just something I'm looking into. I've got about $1000 to spend at the moment and I need a new laptop because at this damn school you have to have a computer to get anything done.

Not looking for death metal sound at all (hate that shit). More of a power groove/thrash type sound. Pantera/Down/Metallica type sound. The RR3 I'm looking at is transparent red, looks sweet IMO. Gold plate around the controls and gold bridge. Sweet as hell.

I'm buying DEATHCS's RX10D as a backup so I'll let you all know the rundown on its playability in case DEATHCS doesn't contribute after this. Cheers
