Well its not a good habit to get into and its not recommended but I usually have my strings on my guitars about 2-2 and a half months before I replace them. Most people that I talk to replace them about every 3 weeks to a month. But I'm cheap and I don't like replacing my strings so it sorta gets set aside.

And in regards to the question part of your post I don't know I can never find anything to make the strings last longer...but then again I've never really looked. I'm sure the question has come up somewhere in the forum before.

this isn't of much help, but i have heard of people removing and boiling their strings to clean them and then putting them back on. it seems ridiculous to me, considering that strings are pretty cheap. i suppose if you're a bassist with some really high-end strings it might make sense, but it still seems like a lot of work. plus, it seems like it would be really hard to re-string after you've already snipped the ends of the strings once.

I use DR coated strings and they last a month. Normal strings last 2 weeks. I wouldn't use DR coated strings on a guitar without EMG though. The strings need to be grounded with passive pups.

I hope so, but make sure you get the coated ones. I have been using the Black coated ones for like 3 years now. I got acid hands so uncoated string rust up fast on me even with constant cleaning. The coated DR string last me twice as long and still sound and play good when I take them off. I'm just freaked out about having them on any longer then a month is all. I also use EMGs with them. No ground. I don't know how they might sound with passives.

Last time I changed strings to my Jackson was at June. It has a Floyd, so I put the whole string to the guitar and left the ball end in the headstock. They are wound to balls in there. I use GHS FastFret every day and the strings feel like new. If and when a string breaks, I just loosen it a bit from the tuning peg and tighten the end to the Floyd. Saves money like a fukker.

I change my strings everytime I want to record. Dunlop UltraGlide 65 is pretty good for cleaning the strings.

+1. I probably have the same strings, and am tuned to drop A and B. GHS Zakk lo tune right? I could barely fit the .70 through the string hole in the tuning machine. br00t3l.

I bought some Dean Markley blue steels 52-11 guage for D though, I'm done with playing Nile and Amom Amarth, for now at least.

It all depends how long the string sounds and feels good. If I start to feel that the tension is way too little then I'll get new ones. My strings are currently fine but I just want to tune higher for the time being. I never break strings and they never get dirty and I play a lot, if you do you shouldn't bash your strings like a monkey and wash your hands more often, you dirty bastard!

I don't know if anyone else felt this. But everytime I change my strings they don't sound too good. Especially the low E string. They always sound better two days later. Maybe my guitar has to get used to the strings.

I use a different set of strings. I usually buy a pack of DR 10-46 strings. Than discard the high E string. String it up like usual and buy an extra .70 for the low A. So it becomes sort of an custom gauge .13-.70 stringset And i never get tiren of drop A tuning. You can fuck around alot with that dropped A string. But at the moment I have 2 guitars. A jackson RR-3 and a RR-1 the RR-1 is in C# with DR .10-.52 and the RR-3 is in Drop A. Both with a dimario X2n in the bridge and a invader in the neck.
