Guitarstring strength - downtuned guitar

I guess that this question was maybe asked a several times before, but I didnt find anything with the search function, so...

What string strength do you recommend for a guitar which is downtuned to D?

10's and 11's. No more imo. Everyone is different, but that seems to be the norm for most including me.

Make sure you guitar is setup correcting for your new string size or you will not like it at all.

It's personal preference. At the moment I'm playing 12s in D, but I think I prefer 11s.
Get at least 10s, at most 12s

I've used Dean Markley 11-52s for a while now and they seem to be ideal for D standard.

I have not had any tuning other than d standard for about 3 years, and I've always used D'darrio 9s.

I have .10's on my guitar that I tune down to D ocassionally but they're too loose so I'd have to say 11's

It really depends on you're preference, but i would say no lower than 11s if you're tuned to D. I'm in E standard and i have 12s, my friends has his guitar setup for D standard and uses 11s, and i cant stand it so i guess its preference.

I say leave standard guage on there, but thats me. I prefer my strings a little looser.

Though on one of my RGs, I have it in drop C, and I had to put 10-46 on it to keep it from feeling like I'm playing a rubber band guitar.

10s will work and even 9s, but if you want your strings nice and tight when downtuned, you'll have to go heavier. Personally I just play my .10 to .46 in whatever tuning I use. I can get down to drop B without too much trouble. But that's me...I like the slinkiness of the strings. But if you want it to feel like a guitar in standard tuning, you'll have to go heavier.

I use .10-.70 for standard E tuning, and heavy guage bass strings for Drop R tuning.

I just bought some DM Blue steel .11-52's(mediums), cuz I hear they're ideal for D and C and they last a long time, and I'm getting bored of Bb and Drop A with my GHS .70 Boomers.

Drop R....must be low

Anyway, i use .10 for standard and it's really nice. For C# i use .12, so i suggest that you use .11 for D.
