derek is the shit. i got the stuff, started jamming the powerball, and all of a sudden, NO NOISE... i was like... shit... figured a tube or a fuse went... called derek up, told him what happend. he said something like "swap out the v1 preamp tube, i bet that's it, probably got messed up in shipping." so i had a spare jj ecc83s(12ax7) liying around, threw it in there. like a charm. he was even going to ship me out a fuckin single jj ecc83s for free for my problem... but i told him not to sweat it. he's already hooked me up so much, and i always have a couple spare tubes for cases like this.

overall i love the way the engl sounds with my rig. but more will come on that, as i play it more(only spent like 3 hours on it today)

i guess it just depends what you want to control.

i opted for the z11+z12 setup so i could take advantage of all the options of the powerball via midi controller. and my intelliverb from the SAME controller. the z11 also works with non engl heads too, anything that uses mono and or stereo 1/4" jacks for footswitching. twas an extra like $400 and sumthin bucks for the two, but a great buy.

The fireball is not like any other amp I have played. The gain is so tight, and so refined, most people would have to play it to understand how fucking good the gain is. And with a little goofing around with knobs... I can go from a ballsy overdriven Priest like tone, then turning the gain up, pretty much matching that Necrophagist tone, and a little more gain, something more like Immolation / Origin / Emeth. The lead end of it pissess all over any 5150 or XXX I have played, and is better than (but not necessarily `blow away`) Mesa dual or triple rec. I wish it had independent channels, but I really shouldn't bitch at all about this work of art.

I would say I like it... I guess.

Hey,not trying to hijack the thread or shit,What are your opinions on trading a mesa 20/20 for a fireball??I owned a Engl e530 for a while and i liked it quite a bit,and i have played a fireball pretty briefly,and it sounded great me.
Just curious as i dont really need the 20/20,as i prefer my engl p/a,and you dont often come across much in the used market in the way of european amps.Thanks for any help.
oh and BTW he said the tubes are old,and dont sound as good any more,so he offered to order a new set,if i gave him my 4u rack.What set would you recomend in it,both pre and power?

engls have plenty of that. at least, my powerball and savage have. I think the fireball is limited when it comes to eq'ing (IE missing depth punch control, dual mid control and seperate eq/s/gain knobs)

I'de check out the sound first. Honestly, I think my powerballs sounds better through my 1960b then a engl v30 cab. the v30 cab might sound very dark but I think it lacks definition, just doesn't sound very clear. I should know, I've played them both and use the marshall live...

the v60 and xxl engl cabs are a different story though! I think the Engl xxl cabs are far superior to the other Engl cabs.
if you're allready spending heaps on a cab you're probably better off finding a Diezel cab with Diezel speakers, Bogner Ubercab or one of those flashy Soldano cabs..

i'm seriously thinking(just thinking, to0 early to write anything in stone) about selling the splawn and grabbing a savage 120. it's just a different experience to bring something like this into my own house, with my guitar, my cab, my accessories, and crank it up to like 7 and shake the walls. night and day.

it's in my base ment of a well built/finished house... a corner room(really helps) and if you've noticed in some of my pics the walls have some sound quilt thingys on em.

so far about 7 on the channel volume and 7 on the master... one chug and your balls shake.



if i do sell it, i'm not going to let myself sell it for a while. but if i do actually put her up for sale. i'll let you know.
