Locking nut question?

I was thinking of replacing my Ibanez's neck with one that has a locking nut & the bridge on the body is a fixed bridge. So i was wondering if the lockers will work the same as if it had a tremolo? Because i tune to a bunch of different tunings & i dont want to have to mess with a trem all the time. I just want it to lock like normal but with a fixed bridge, will this work?

Wait, why would you put a locking nut on a fixed bridge guitar?

a locking nut would help keep a guitar in tune even withough a trem

I think it would just cause more problems than its worth, cause if it gets out of tune at all youll have to unlock them retune then lock
and if the nut tightens the string at all when its clamped down you have no way of fixing it. I wouldnt do it.

Agreed, Shreddist, there is no point in doing it and it will be worse in the long run. Cyberwaste, you're better off getting locking machineheads.

Well basiclly i just really wanted the neck because its just badass, im more than likely gonna get it because it will turn my guitar from a $500 dollar guitar to a $1500 one because the body on mine is exactly same as the model the neck came from & if it doesnt work without the fine tuners ill just take the locks off & use it as normal. It could have been more simple but i just hate trems & another thing that sucks is that Kahler makes fine tuner fixed bridges but not in 7-string versions, so i guess im just fucked on that one. I should invent one, i bet it would be popular with people who hate trems but want to lock their strings.

I emailed Kahler once about a locking trem for a 7 string. They emailed me back saying it would be $700!!

I don't understand why they dont just mass produce them. Because when I emailed them they said that they'd have to specially build it for me. (also that price was in Canadian so that would be what like $200 US )

Is it me or does it seem like the strings would go sharp if you lock it on the nut, because it would pull the strings down maybe?

Wich isn't a big deal if you can fine tune the strings on the bridge...

You might be just a little bit sharp, sometimes i'll do this to avoid that:
Before locking down the nuts, tune each string a little bit lower than what you want it at, then when you lock em down it should be dead on. If it's not, adjust the fine tuners a bit. Thats usually what I do and it works good.
