Questions about live...

Hi, one or two questions about a live situation (That are geared towards my setup...)

Now, lets assume the venues im playing at have a P.A System set up, and thats what Im playing through. I play through a POD which I assume can be set up to a PA system? Verification would be nice but im pretty sure it can.

So it goes>

Guitar > POD > PA
right?

Now the problem. My band is small; a 3 piece at the moment. I cant find a bassist for shit around here; I tune to B, and while I know 4 string bassists, theres like, NO ONE with a 5 string, who can play very well. Its not a very metal city at all, trust me on this...

So for bass, I am thinking this:
I have a whammy pedal, and one of the settings is to take your signal and lower it two octaves. Im going to do that, but split my signal in two, so im like:

1 Guitar> Splitter box>------------------------> Splitter Box> POD > PA
>Whammy pedal -2octaves>

The second splitter is two grab the two signals, and so I can lead both in to the POD again, to change my tone to something that doesnt suck.

The reason Im doing this, is so I can add depth. Itll sound a bit flat, as, theres no bassist and also no secondary guitar (We're a mix between Cryptopsy and Gorguts [Both later incarnations]) So you can imagine the difficulty im having finding anyone capable of playing this type of stuff. Not to sound arrogant, but its fucking hard stuff, its easier for me to focus on my track and we can get sync'd quicker, and there are keys taking place as another layer for atmosphere and polyrhythm duties, so thats that sorted anyway. I saw desecration with only one guitar and a bassist + drummer before now anyway, and they sounded ok, so really having one guitar is not an issue for me.

So basically, im asking, in a live situation, at a typical venue, am I going to have the capability to be able to do this, or is it ok I split my signal? Im assuming there may be a drop in sound quality btw so if there is, and its a constraint, then Ill have a rethink, but also lets assume there isnt...

Cliffs:
Want to split signal twice in live situation
Is it typically possible, or is there any issues i should know?

Aren't basses only 1 octave lower than guitar?

Fucked if I know, two or one, its all the same to me. I asked a while ago, but no one answered, so Im just going as low as possible but if it is One octave then Ill go up to that.

just play with a 4 string bassist. tell him to get some fatter strings and tune to B. basically the same thing you're doing(assuming you have a 6 string guitar).
