Whatever was first considered "rock," was influenced by, but not taken from, blues. Same with metal too rock.

But it what else was it taken from if anything? It's closest to blues whether it's Buddy Holly, Elvis, or some of the other 50's bands that had more predominant beat to them. Explain, please? Even bands like Cream, Beatles, and Stones all credit old blues as their basis.

when someone composes a song, they are writing their own composition, not the composition of all artists leading up to the genre they are writing in. some people may have been influenced along the line, but an artist's work is an artist's work regardless of its roots.

And blues took from old country (Robert Johnson's repertoire consisted of as many country as blues songs), and both from crooners (the first singers to work with microphones, who defined a lot of singing to come after), and everybody shut the hell up. American music is a clusterfuck of various influences. The point is not to trace them based on current historical biases, pointing out certain influences and neglecting others. They're all there if you want to highlight them. The point is to shut the fuck up if you don't have anything worthwhile to say. And, believe me, you don't.
