Who is the best guitarist you know?
I am making this thread not for arguements, but so people may know about some. . .well. . .good unknown guitarists. If you have somebody you know personally that you think is just absolutely the best guitarist or just the best you know of, post some info here about them, maybe a link to where you can listen to some of their music or maybe buy their album.
Mine is a guy named Rick Mals. He went to Berklee and he is amazing at everything, but probably shines at improvisation and rhythms more than anything. He has all the technique in the world too, and he taught me everything i know. He was real big in the Pittsburgh area in the mid-90's, and probably would have got his music much farther than that but then got married and had a child. But starting last month, hes making another CD. you can buy his CD here and listen to a sound clip or two of his works. He takes a very Steve Vai - Allan Holdsworth take on music, but in no way is he copying their style, its completely original.
http://www.trinityrecords.net/
Just go to the menu bar and click on Rick Mals to hear two tracks off his CD.
Who is your local guitar hero?

Yngwie J. Malmsteen
But Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman´s been the biggest source of inspiration for me since 94. They rule!

My old guitar teacher, a guy named Tom Fryer, was nuts. He's some 40-something music nerd who barely scrapes out a living from music, playing any gig he can get, but with the skill he's got, he should be famous. He could play Meshuggah solos better the Thordendal could (he was a Holdsworth nut) and learned Foul Body Autopsy in about 15 mins when I showed him the music.
Not only that, the cunt showed me some ridiculous things you can do with a guitar. For example, one time he stuck the neck of a wine bottle (removed from the rest of the bottle of course!) on his pinky finger, and a small thimble on the tip of his ring finger (both on his picking hand). He then used the bottleneck to do a technique that was like a combination of sweeping and pick scraping at the same time, whilst doing arpeggios with his fretting hand, and then topping that all off by sliding along the strings with the thimble at the end of the sweeps. It sounded like Necrophagist meets later-era Gorguts, needless to say one of the craziest things I've ever heard.
If that wasn't enough, the last time I saw him he was nearly finished designing this sort of "computer guitar" thing, I can't really explain it other than it looked really crazy and was incredibly intricate. I was lucky to see it, he had it hidden away because he was paranoid as all hell about anyone stealing the idea!
Haha, writing this makes me want to call him up again and get more lessons!

Mikael Åkerfeldt is way underrated for his guitar playing he has to be one of the best guitaists in my opinion.
But my favourite guitar player who is also extremely good is Pat O'Brien

It has been said an enumerable amounts of time but for me it is Yngwie J. Malmsteen. His extremely fast classical playing sparks something in my brain I cannot explain.

I know a lot of guitarists but the guitarist for this band is definitely the most badass... Tell me what you think about those song clips, they have a southern metal sound....

Haydn? Isn't that the name of a classical composer?
Hmm let me restate:
Favorite guitarists, skill wise: Van Halen, Paco de Lucia, and Jim Malone and Steve Vai(but also music wise).
Favorite guitarists, music wise(meaning not caring that much about skill): Trey Azagthoth, Quorthon(of Bathory), Karl Sanders(also skill wise) and Chuck Schuldiner.
Edit: People that I actually know... well, if my co-worker is as good as he brags that he is, I guess it's him. But he's a fucking liar about just about everything he tells me so I wouldn't be surprised if he sucks. A person I met interested in people for a Necrophagist-style band said he could play "a lot of diminished shit", so I guess he's the most skillful dude I've ever talked to.

A friend of my dad's , who used to work for Washburn, is the best I've ever heard. He used to have a collection of 150 or so guitars, but his house got fucking burglarized and all but 5 were stolen.

This dude is the lead guitarist in our band Alaska. He is great at improv shred. He can out shine almost anybody at our school that plays guitar. The most impressive thing is hes only been playing for 2 years, a little less actually. these are 2 of our bands songs, I play rhythm on it but he pretty much wrote it all and the lead over the song is all improv.

Ingwe Malmsteen is the best guitar player in the world. Listen to Black Star and you'll know what I mean.
Trey Azagthoth, Erik Lindmark, and Samoth are a few of my favorites.
