My god! That baby! It's in a micro-wave!
Not lookin to spend that much, under £500 (GBP), the valve amp is a piece of shit i bought off eBay, just some old head with no name, 120W 4 power amp tubes, 3 pre amp, just not enough distortion for what i'm lookin for, and with my distortion pedal it's just a bit...spongey.
Aye, I was lookin into like a Crate GT1200H, but have heard bad things on reliability etc, anybody ever experience this?

Look for a Crate Blue Voodoo - an excellent amp, plus you can pick it up for a decent price in the UK (I got mine for £230).
Edit: Oh yeah, it's not SS btw, but the distortion should do you fine.

I need to pickup one of these, though I'll have to try it again actually with MY guitars.

if you want that ampeg vh-140 tone. the crate shockwave is the equivalent only better because its higher wattage.
the gt1200 is.. okay. but for only $300 more the gt3500h (shockwave) is much much better. better deal. SHOCKWAVE!!

Not to mention that 120 watts s.s is nothing for headroom.

what is head room?? the volume that it can do??
and 1 more question, ss amps, always sound the same right, i mean, tube amps sound different most of the time, i mean, when its cold outside they might sound worse/or better than on a hot day, atleast my engl did that all the time
it would soudn awesome or crapy sometimes.
also, a ss doesnt matter how loud u play right?? cut my engl had to go loud before it sounded like sumtin nice.

Damn, it went for the equivalent of £212 GBP, fuckin dirt cheap, if only i lived in America...
lol
head room's basically how loud it can do, i think, i kinda think of it in terms of how loud a clean tone you can get outta it before it starts distortin and stuff (i dono why, probably not even anywhere near the real meanin of it either =P)
i think with solid state they tend to get a bit crapper the louder they are, while the valves sound better when the power amp starts distorting.

It does matter how loud you play. Or rather, how low you can keep the volume, when you play. With a tube amp, it is true that you can push it and push it, but with solid-states there's so far you can push the amp before it breaks up, and starts to sound bad. If you think a tube amp can be inconsistent, try pushing a solid-state head's volume to compete with a drummer, and you have to rearrange your EQ entirely. I'm selling my Crate GT350 right now in favour of something that does'nt break up : 5150 combo.

Is 500$ including s/h right? Because I'm going to need to trade the funds for a 5150, basically.

Its not really an issue of headroom anymore, I've actually got some plans behind this, you wait and see

Behringer is cheap, but of poor quality. I would rather use Crate's bottom-of-the-line cab than use a Behringer cab.

I found it on Ebay. I bought a 1960 cab off ebay for a good price too (If I remember correctly - £150 exc. shipping). A 1960 goes with just about anything I'd say, and what's awesome about them is that they're plentiful, so good deals are easy to come by.
