Mesa Boogie Simul 2-Ninety

Hi,

a firend of mine just bought a Mesa 2:90 Power Amp but there is something that worries me. It is kind of noisy. Not the sound coming out of the cab but the amp itself. As soon as it's turned on the ventilator (well i think its the ventilator) is unusualy loud. It doesn't bother when you play (because it is way not as loud as the guitar) but it is louder than it should be, it think.
The local Musicstore said that everything is ok with it... and the (guitar)-sound is great but it seemed strange enough for me to ask if anybody has the same Poweramp and has noticed the same. Is it just the way the Mesa 2:90 works or does anybody knows something about that "Problem" ?

plug it into a cab... with no preamp or anything running through it... turn it up, is it still noisey? if so, take the earaser end of a pencil, and tap each tube(big and small), one at a time. if one makes crazy noise when you do that. it's a bad tube.

If by 'ventilator' you mean the fan, the it's probably OK. You may have a tired old fan in there that is rattling around a bit. If you are worried, you can likely open it up and check for a loose mechanical connection on the fan or even replace the fan if are so inclined.

For now anyways, take note if the noise stops, in which case the fan has failed completely and you should stop using the amp pronto.

Yes, it might be the fan. The problem is that once opened there isnīt any warranty anymore (there is still a year); but it would be really shitty to send it back to Mesa, for 2 weeks or something like that, just for a loose mechanical connection (there are a lot of gigs where the Poweramp is needed in the next weeks).
