the new epiphone midnight les paul custom

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...ase_pid/518095/

this thing is pretty sweet considering its the same price i payed for my custom. they did good job of going for that "midnight" look and not over doing it. im not one to complain about weight when it comes to guitar mostly because im never really standing up, but it seems like gibson would take the hint and drop the weight a little bit. thats all you hear people complain about. and that way you wouldnt worry about becoming a hunch back bald guy that works at a music store that rents kids violins. ya know?

just curious, if you were in gibson's shoes, how would you go about "dropping the weight a little bit" without compromising the things that make a les paul, a les paul?

you could by a parker that weighs only 5 pounds.... but if you want the sound of a les paul you have to buy a les paul type guitar. and in return, put up with the weight.

i highly doubt it's les paul's ruining people's backs.

Wink

The only downside is the dual EMG 81 pickups. That guitar should have an EMG 81 bridge and either an 85 or 60 in the neck.

the 81 and 85 can be good either way, bridge or neck. the 60, however, i feel has it's place just in the neck.

true, that's why i haven't switched. the les paul has killer "punch". its perfect for me. the internet and video games is why we all have hunch backs not guitars.

That's not a bad deal at all. It looks pretty cool. It's basically modeled after Kirk Hammett's black LP. Although I think his is a ESP. I don't know for sure.
But putting EMGs in that guitar, I don't know. It just don't sound right to me. But I guess that's meant to be like an uber-metal axe, so that explains the EMGs.
As far as I could tell from looking around Guitar Center, though, you can't find a guitar for $600 with EMG 81s, only HZs, so that's definitelly a killer deal. However, the desingers forgot to make the fretboard ebony. Rosewood just doesn't go with the whole theme, makes no sense to me. Having an ebony fretboard on that axe, would be just plain bitchin'. And metal.

81 in bridge, 85 in neck.

Because its a thick mahogany body, I'm thinking that the 85 would sound muddy in the bridge ...

Yeah i think it's designed just for neck.

That's a really nice lp. Dunno bout the dual 81;s though. I've tried a guitar with dual 81 and i think that 81/85 sounds much better.

It is designed for neck, but some people put it in the bridge anyway for enhanced low end. But then again, for MY rig, is it even necessary?

Crate GT3500h --- > *effects loop* Aphex 204 Aural Exciter w/ Big Bottom ( BOTH channels used simultaneously ) --- > ART 31 band EQ with all low frequencies permitted --- > Genz Benz 2x12 with Eminence Delta Pro 400 watt speakers --- > Avatar active 4x10 --- > Peavey Black Widow 1x15 ( soon to be replaced with 2 1x18's ).

My rig pushes a healthy 350 watts at 2 ohms, 50 hz without blushing thank you very much.

I have no probs with EMG's, but I think it's kinda wastefull to put them in a mahagony body.

my main point was hinting more towards the 81/81 set not being a "downside" at all. because th 81 makes a bitchin neck pu... i'm thinking of ditching my 85 in the neck of my rg for an 81 or 60 actually.

In my humble opinion , I would never buy a Epi, I think a LTD is a better deal than a EPI,
But this is just my humble assed opinion

Epiphone is hit or miss for me. This one Epi ZW Paul I played a year ago was phenomenal, I played one last week in a local store and I hated it.
