Nile "Borrowing" Music?
I watched 'Creepshow 2' (1987) lastnight; in the soundtrack there was a recurring section that really reminded me of something.. It turns out that this same 'riff' Is used in 'Nile - Lashed to the Slave Stick', the riff that begins at 1:30, I checked the book on the nile CD and there are no credits (that I can find) to the person who wrote the music for this film or anything, but possibly that piece of music comes from somwhere even before creepshow. It's not super important, but the riff in question is my favourite part of the whole Nile album, im just curious as to where it origionaly came from, so any information would be appreciated

Well if it's only one riff i don't really see how it matters as long as it's not a huge part of the song. In my band we rip off some riffs from other things i mean we play jingle bells at one point

No I can't say that for sure. Maybe. All I'm saying is that someone brought this up on the Nile forum and other people confirmed the link.

Try listening to Well Of Souls by Candlemass
and then Unas,The Slayer Of The Gods by Nile.
Of course Sanders accepted that it was his influence but it's exactly the
same riff

As I recall, Karl posted on the Nile board saying that was deliberate, as a tribute.
They should probably put things like that in the credits, though.

Yeah... wouldn't want to risk a lawsuit or something. At least the rip off isn't as inconsiderate as Korn's rip-off of Morbid Angel's "Angel of Disease"...

I still need to download that Korn song to judge for myself...
Isn't that song called 'ball tongue' or something like that?..
Anyway I like some Korn songs (a lot of Korn is terrible though,) so I guess that makes me a poser or something....

I remeber watching the first creepshow and it was the fucking worst movie I've ever seen. Seriously, this was like years ago and I still rip on the guy who picked it out, it's so awful.

It took me a while to realize it was the same riff... but yeah, that breakdown in "Angel of Disease" was definately ripped off. Many other Korn riffs could have easily been stolen from Morbid's slower songs from Domination and Covenant. They recorded a cover for "God of Emptiness", I hope they don't dare releasing that shit unless it's seriously going to get a bunch of Nu kids into some real metal...

I compared those riffs, and to me, it didn't really sound like a rip-off, there's just a very slight resemblance really, but the Nile riff is exactly the same as the piece from Creepshow.

I think the creepshow gravestone scene is the most played and rewinded scene from any video when we have 'gatherings' of friends and watch shitty films. The tragic wail as the guy gets crushed is classic.
By the way, have you seen any of the Grande Illusions books by Tom Savini? They have a fair bit in there on creepshow. Had to buy both volumes from the US a few years back, got them both including shipping for around $50 I think.
