New gear of all sorts, Ibanez makes tube amps!
There were so many new products in the AMS catalog I got today, I thought some of it was thread-worthy :
Ibanez has officially thrown their hat into the ever-growing boutique metal amp market with their Thermion series :
http://ibanez.com/accessories/spec.asp?m=106
http://www.americanmusical.com/sort...z-Thermion.html
Someone get to a guitar center and play one ... I'm anxious to see whether or not they've made a quality product or if they've pulled a "Krank".
Crate has made a 'step - up' series from their solid-sate GT series with the VTX series. This goes mainly to DeathCS and anyone else who cares for the 350 watt Crate monster :
http://www.crateamps.com/html/product.cfm?pid=113
Crate has stated in e-mail to someone I know that this is supposed to be superior to the GT3500h, and I hope they don't mean that as in "15 digital effects and tuner" superior.
I think there are some new gadgets out there ( there's a new boutique 400$ distortion preamp/pedal out ) that I can't remember off the top of my head ...

As you said earlier, the new 350 monster will drive the price of the GT3500 down, which in turn, ends up good for me in the end. That way I won't have to kill my entire christmas with just a head.
I don't like the price tag on the ibanez head. It makes me go "ick."

Yeah, it had better sound like 1,000$ or their reputation as amplifier builders will be further damaged

I'd bet you any amount of money that the tubes would go in a few weeks, and it would keep going downhill from there.

well, i'm kinda wondering what kind of sound they'll give it. Their one, or another marshall-clone?
I have a feeling it would be another 'generic' high gain voicing.

I'm still just going with a Blue Voodoo or the GT3500. Even if this was cheap, I doubt I'd touch it. And I'm an Ibanez junkie when it comes to guitars.

yeah, but guitar quality means shit when your building an amp, and vice versa.
Anyone want to buy an peavy guitar?

The Ibanez amp looked pretty interesting but a little off. I'm an Ibanez junkie when it comes to guitar as well but I've got a bad feeling about this amp.

I don't like ibanez amps at all. even the old ss heads they had where cheap as fuck and sounded horrible. begginer's crap if you ask me.
that new tube head doesn't look boutique to me at all. just your basic tube head, it comes with ruby tubes for christ's sake. reason enough for me not to buy it anyways. not like I would but hey

Ruby Tubes is just a label, such as Groove Tubes ect.
The 12AX7 in that Ibanez Amp for example are from TESLA, and the 6L6GCMSTR are chinese tubes.

I know but I think they sound horrible. I had ruby ax7's and el34's, swapped them with JJ's and Svetlana's and was much happier with those.
tube brands make a lot of difference, even stock engl el34 tubes sounded better then the ruby el 34's.

it's more than just a relabel. brands like groove tubes, even though they may be made in the jj/tesla factory, they're built to completely different specs. and those tubes made to those different specs can only be sold under the GT(per se) name
people underlook that alot... places like thetubestore.com are fucking retards because they just tell everyone brands like ruby, GT, EH, ect.. are simply "tested and relabeled". not always true. talk about lying to your customers.
but anyways... alot of amps come stock with ruby's. hell, h&k triamps do.
but of course, even if they kick ass with them, they may kick more ass with jj's and or sovteks.

damn straight.
the Ruby's that are in the triamp are build for H&K at specific specs if i'm not mistaken.
I've seen a triamp (MKI) with ruby tubes in it but they also had the H&K logo on it! did yours had those same tubes??

groove tubes? they're allright. do keep in mind that power tubes wear pretty fast if you use your amp daily and at high volume. they're pretty expensive too.
my powerball costs like 120 bucks to retube the poweamp only. (that's if you get JJ's or Svetlana's.)

my triamp, since i bought it used, had all sovteks in the preamp, except the phase inverter, still said hughes in kettner on it... the power tubes were EH el34's... swapped out a couple preamp tubes for jj's and loaded it with some jj el34's.
but we're talking about a high end "botique" amp. so you could probably load it up with whatever cheap shit tubes you want at it still wouldnt fuck around.

that's it?
since i'm running a quad of jj kt88's in my splawn... and it's almost time to replace them... i'm looking at like $150 just for the tubes, and maybe more to bias it.

i know you live in the netherlands, so here's a german store that's cheaper than drtube..
try tubetown.de
all poweramp tubes are matched and the SED(Svetlana) 6L6 go for 15€ each
for the pream i'd definetly take a TT(TubeTown[chinese Tube]) for the V1 (first preamp tube) and fill the other three up with TT/JJ/EH
i'm using 4 TT ECC83 and the tone is really aggressive
if you're using JJ 6L6 the tone will get a little soft and warm, i'd use SED 6L6 instead for the powerball..

like a breakdown of how they're built? which components are used, ect..? or sound characteristics?
"generally" el34's have less low end than 6l6's, el34's have a tighter overall feel and a bit of a mid hump, 6l6's have more of a boom to them with more sizzle in the top. and the breakup is alot sweeter and happens earlier with el34's.
of course not all 6l6's are equal, and not all el34's are equal... and of course lets not forget the rest of the power section... and the preamp you're using.
for example,
a jcm 900 and a framus cobra both run off of el34's normally... now, the 900 needs the lows pretty much dimed to get a fair amount of bass in the mix, the mids and treble are very present aswell... where as the cobra... you cant excape the monsterous low end, and you get away from the overdone upper freqs.

bah that crate head is so ugly.
and the digital effects are okay, but I have no desire to use them.
I'd like to try one out though.
