Beneath the Massacre
G'day all! Golly it's been a while!
Now you old-timers don't expect me to be here like i used to.....i'm just bringing news of yet another mind-blowing canadian metal band from Montreal.
Beneath The Massacre's the name. I've seen this band twice in less than a month, and they are incredible. I've never seen any band match their complexity, and before you start shouting at me, i've seen these bands live: Cephalic Carnage (5 times), Martyr (twice), Spawn of Possession (once), Cryptopsy (once, soon to be 2), Cannibal Corpse (once), Agiel (once).......of course, amongst about 200 others, but those are the ones i deem most talented in speed and complexity. Personally i think Beneath is the next step, beyond all the previously mentionned bands.
Some might disagree, and that's fine. But to top if off this band keeps you listening. It's not just a bunch of notes jumbled together like a poorly contructed crossword puzzle, there's actually melody behind the notes and movement in the song. There's quite a bit of "hardcore"-ish stuff in it, the kind that makes you headbang real hard, but isn't very hard to play (mostly the same chord), yet with the rest of the riffs being so brilliant, you almost need a good 20-30 seconds per song just to absorb it all before being brutally assaulted again with violent guitars and insane drums.
So anyways, have a hear. http://www.beneaththemassacre.com/ That's their website, and they have a link to another site where you can hear some tunes. I bought their demo, it's only 5 songs, but i've been listening to it at least once a day and it's getting better every time. If you like Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Beheaded, Cryptopsy, and other brutal-ish tech bands, you'll definitely love this one.
Nihilist should look into this band, although i wouldn't be surprised if you already know them. Mansley too.....you're smart, you know good things. Oh and Cloaca.

Wow, i knew they were big around here (i live about 2 years from Montreal), but i didn't know they were "BIG".
Surprisingly enough almost everyone at their shows know the lyrics, while the main acts barely even get 1/2 the crowd moving.

One thing that amuses me the most about this band is that they don't follow the general "look" of metal bands. These guys dress preppier than i do! It's awesome. I met them after their last show here on the street, and if i hadn't known who they were i would have never guessed they were part of a brutal metal band.

The first 30 seconds of that song are unbelievable. Technical metal just keeps getting tech-er.

Yeah, I got Mechanics of Dysfunction a few weeks ago and it's a very good album. Nothing at all like metalcore, if anything it's comparable to a death metal Calculating Infinity.

i love the new album... its awesome they pull of the tech metal thing with hardcore style breakdowns. i thought the EP the two styles almost didnt fit together but whatever its awesome. pretty sure metal heads are to busy watching the band shred. well the hardcore kids are busy watching whos throwing their fist harder, so it works out.

yeah true i agree but then i dont agree but then i agree i love them too and if you see my post before up top i cant believe what i said so long ago omg its like so bad and all but then their new album was a horrendous flop i agree so they only have a few good songs but their breakdowns suck so i dunno whether they are my personal fabourite band but i wouldnt say so but then again they are so crazy but the vocals suck and the drums are so overtriggered but thats cause he goes really fast and stuff but makes it look so easy man i wish i could play like him but then again im a guitarist so it doesnt really matter and where is the bassist in the songs you can barely hear bass they could be so much heavier if the bassist played some open strings in A fuck that would be fucking heavy like the bassist from korn cause that guy is fucking heavy i forget his name but i know all the names from the guys from btm cause that band makes me so happy when i listen to them even though i fail to see that they are actually not very creative or very challenging musically to themselves cause they just like playing really fast or really slow but i guess thats what happens when you spend so much time practicing skill and i know this cause i email the guys in the band everyday for their daily positive feedback recieving and at the same time i also like to imagine that i am sucking their cocks simultaneously while i type to them.

The drummer uses triggers....
I'm not really all that impressed with this band, to be quite honest. I'm not going to spend my hard earned cash on one of their albums. However, I wouldn't mind seeing them live while I'm drunk...like on the summer slaughter tour.

Their new album just has less metalcore style breakdowns, and is less aggressive, but definitely more interesting IMO.
I like both though, just the newer one is more appealing to me.

Lol are you kidding me? The newer one repeats some riffs like 8 times aswell as merging 2 to 3 breakdowns and that's just one song.......
Sure the production and technicality is better but the memorability and songwriting.............
Meh matter of opinion.

I love them, Profitable Killcount is brutal as shit. I really love the technicality combined with the melody in that song. Good for them for being so fucking heavy!

Does anyone have the EP as well as the album?
I have the EP, but not the album... not yet. However, I'm seeing them at Summer Slaughter in a little over two weeks, so I'm thinking about picking up their LP. Should I? How does it compare to the EP?
