You could achieve it through a combination of spraying and various masking layers, thoguh you'll have to plan it and take the time and effort to ensure thatthe paint's opacity will be dense enough to avoid 'bleeding' etc...

Easier said than done though, I've sprayed and painted a guitar a few years back, and it looks terrible. Be sure to do the preparation and use appropriate paint types etc, otherwise it'll look bab.

I'm not sure, but logic would say the bottom layers want to be those that can be covered up 100% with the other colours, be it through natural colour contrast (i.e. black covers red which covers white) or through the application of primers. Take note that certain colours often come with an array of primers, I know red does anyway as it's a popular choice for cars and that kind of shit.

(Primers form the first layer onto which the colour then goes, it helps to 'mask out' things underneath it as well as providing a better and flatter surface for paint adhesion etc).

Not to sound patronising, but can you picture in your mind how I mean by multi layered masking, where you spray the guitar then apply masking (such as with masking tape) then re spray the guitar with a different colour, then repeat: once you remove the tape, the differing layers should be exposed.

No no, I know fuck all and my own attempts have ended tragically, though I did do it when I was 15 and rushed it/couldn't be arsed with attention and time. Allof my comments are just logical/common sense and should provide a basis on which to work

If you ask at your local guitar store they'll have good advice inr egards to what paint types etc will cover your guitar's material A good tip is to have a test practice area, on the back where it won't mind as much if it 'ruins' the guitar

Get ahold of some military grade paint or nuclear grade duct tape, that shit doesn't come off of anything. Clothes, walls, skin, it's fucking ridiculous.

hooray for me. Search a bit, and you will find my thread on when I made one.
I used electrical tape, as to add to the ghetto ness of it all. I'm sure he used spray paint originally, and its not to hard to do, but i like the electical tape look.

the tape on the top of the body doesn't peel at all, but i bound it around the edges with tape, and that comes up a little bit, but if you do it right then it shouldnt at all.

It is a Peavey Raptor, but any red strat would do.

personally, i'd cut stencils out of bristolboard (sp?), lay them ontop, and the spray the stripes on layer by layer. But with spraypaint, you'd probably have to sand off a bit of the gloss finish so that it wouldn't scratch off.

And for the parts where if you cut in the stripes, it would just make a big square in the board,, id keep the square and trim it and lay it down... kinda like a floating piece in the stencil. You could probably hold the board still with tape or something...
