scales
my friend told me that practicing scales will help me improve speed as a guitarist. i guess it make sense, but i just wanted to know exactly how it makes you better.
sorry if this post seems retarded or useless

It will help you know the fretboard better, make you a more proficient music writer, clean up/speed up technique, and make you have more control when it comes to improv.

scales are also a good way to practice alternate picking, which also leads to speed

your right on the money. a thing that i do is stereo type scales so i know what pattern i need to play to give it a the sound i want

We've been through this. I have sent you several PM's telling you what you should do with a metronome. Several months ago.
Don't mean to sound harsh, its the truth.
I've already told you that riffs from songs/the 'chromatic' 1234 excercise and doing trills up and down the neck will get your hands in fine shape, when used with some sort of time keeping device.
ANY pattern, which challenges your hands, should be practiced thoroughly with a metronome. You already know this, now go do it.

Man, I get real sweaty after I wack my dong. Yeah, cause I headbang while I do, and I can't really "Jump" (haha ) like VanHalen in a dorm room, so I just walk back and forth....haha a couple days ago I was jumping up and down on my bed, with my pants down and my roommate came in when I wasn't looking, hahaha.
