Another Head Thread
Tee-hee. Well, I decided that me saving up for a head was NOT going to happen. At least not a decent one on $6.50/hour (i'm working to be broke, I know). So I'm just going to get it for christmas/get my parents to help fund it.
$700 max, not much higher please. Great distortion is a must. I can always use a whirlwind to my marshall or some shit for a good clean.
I was thinking about the Crate 3500GT, or a used Blue Voodoo 120. Thanks for any imput, and sorry that I keep changing my damn mind about heads.

that crate gt3500 will give you all the gain you want. i bet you'd be pretty happy with it. It has a decent clean too. but i'd try it out and see how you like it. The price is right.

The price on these things are great, but as I've said over and over, this amp NEEDS to run at 2 ohms, requiring that you have two cabinets at four ohms
each. With a BV it might not be as essential.

I would go on EBay and check out either the Mesa Dual Rectifier or Peavey 5150 . You can usually find one of those within your price-range on ebay. Id also look into gettin a tube screamer or some other type of overdrive pedal it will tighten up your low end pretty well. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the GT3500 pretty extensively, and I heard it in action at a show last night. I think I'm pretty much set on that head, unless I can find a BV for cheap.
I'll probably look for that used, too.

Peavey 5150, fucker!! They're down in price on the 'bay finally, and you can easily snag one for that much.
Or you could give that cash to me so i dont have to pay my parents half for the Ran I'm getting.

question for you guys...
my buddy is looking into getting a tube stack, and has a low price range. So for that, he's basically looking at a Peavey 5150 and a Crate BV. Right now, he's playing rhythm... and wants to get a chunky really high gain sound like Between the Buried and Me...
Any suggestions?

i've always said "screw everything that isn't peavey". in my opinion, crates and marshalss don't give off a clean enough sound when switched to a clean channel on the head, but peavey always has sounded sweet to my ears. also the distortion/gain i've heard on just about every head ever just blows unproportionatly.

okay, me being the tool that i am, just discovered that hey, they dont make 5150's anymore. And my buddy and i are located in canada, so stack shipping goes over 300$ so fuck ebay, and musicians friend doesnt ship to canada anyway.
With that said, its now between the Blue voodoo, 6505, and the XXX. Anymore advice you guys can share?
