dumborinquestion
Hey, I was just wondering when the guitars are tuned to D in a band(DGCFAD), does the bass also have to be tuned down? And if it does, does it get tuned down to D aswell, just DGCF ? and if you dont have an electronic tuner. . . how would you tune the bass? off a site maybe?

The bass doesn't have to tune down, but you usually would.
So long as you play the right notes it's fine.
You can tune the bass from your other guitar (the bass is one octave lower), a cd, guitar pro, anything that plays a note.

you could always tune to the seventh fret on the lowest string and tune it to your A then use the fifth fret standard type shit. . . it works.

Pluck your low E string on your guitar then tune your bass to that.

I lost my tuner about 5 years ago and never bothered to get a new one, tuning by ear is a good skill and a good habit to get into.
These days I very rarely use tuners (I use them if I'm playing a gig), I even set up my floyd rose by ear using guitar pro for the notes.

Try this You fucking noob
Tune a guitar and bass into standard.
Now play the lowest guitar string and the lowest bass string at the same time.
you will notice that they are the same note. just different pitch. You will notice the same thing will happen if you pluck the heaviest and lightest string on a guitar at the same time. they are both E. EADGBE <--- see?
if you have a guitar in standard tuning. In theory you should be able to tune any guitar or bass into any tuning you want by it.
God.. this is sooo basic
