When I said "With age comes wisdom" I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. many people much younger than me are wiser on some things. I thought that love would make the world go round and everything would be cool when I was younger. When I had a young family I was glad my husband wouldn't have to go into any war zones due to the time frame he was in the Navy otherwise I'd either been worried to death or not really pay much attention. Today, I worry about my son getting a good education, which he is, and getting out in one piece the same way he went in. My attitude about the world is more preservation for my kids and my grandson. Not a world like some overseas in the Middle East go through daily.

you guys seem caught up in semantics on whos country owes who the bigger favor for being in existence. its a moot point, britain installed saddam, drew iraqs borders long ago, its obligated and it has an interest in oil.

the oil revenue pays for the war, the reconstruction and stabilizes the western economies. its 1/5 of the worlds supply sitting under the sand, this war is pure machivelian politics, plain and simple. democracy is the added feature. unlike the theocracy of saudi arabia or the other allies in the region composed of caudillo strongmen and presidents/masters for life, the west will have an oil fief with everything to thank to the US, no embargos, no bullshit. some feel its necessary, our duty after the first gulf war and the subsequent, ultimately deadly sanctions to give these people a better life, a fair government and thier freedom. others feel that they werent born yesterday and remember our other disasters of intervention,aid etc in nicuragua and el salvador,chile,cuba, vietnam<all those countries in hellblasters sig>,too many to name. wars waged on ideology that never come to fruition. i just feel the war makes complete sense if you see america as an ever expanding EMPIRE that has no choice but to bring, thru war<proxy or not> assassination, intervention,invasion,sanctions,embargoes,nukes by any means necessary, everyone into its sphere of trade, into the sphere of political influence and CONTROL.

The RAF at the time consisted of French and Polish pilots amongst others, and yeah without US funding and convoy escort duties, prior to America entering the war fully, we would have run out of materials and supplies. I think it helped that Hitler lost interest in Operation Sealion and set his sights on Russia. It's almost like he didn't really want to invade but would have rather brokered a deal? Changing tactics from bombing fighter bases to terror bombing of cities was a big blunder, as it gave the RAF a slight reprieve.
