Well, thing is, when i tighten up the string, it gets "too short" for the scale of the guitar...and it snaps out of the tightened lock block. should i tie it around the post a certain way? is there a way to tie it that makes it tighten faster with less length of the string wasted?


what i do now is half-turn over the post and then slip it through the hole, so the turn is below the hole. It ends up not tight around the post though, and i have to turn the string winders til it tightens..is that bad?

I've gone through $25 worth of strings already.

is this your only guitar? it kinda sounds like you may not know how to string a guitar without a floyed either

sounds like youre using too high guages of strings, making the bridge tilt too far forward. tighten the springs in the back. maybe add a spring, tune lower, or just use lighter strings. you want the bridge to be parrallel with the body so the tension is even.

about winding the strings around the machine heads. basically what i do is stick through, wrap it around once, and loops it under and pull up. pretty simple but it works well. that excess string, you just clip off. its not wasting anything.

since you seem to be pretty unexperienced in setting up guitars, i'd just take it to a tech. better than selling you guitar, if you like it otherwise.

that $25 in strings could have been spent having someone proffesionally set it up, and if they're nice, show you how to string it yourself.

if you're not a trem guy, like myself. you could just jam some legos or a jenga block in the back so the trem wont move... makes string changing and tuning a million times easier.

Well, I may have figured it out.

The first $5 in strings I used I did something stupid:

I took off ALL THE STRINGS first, as I usually do on my non-trem guitars...of course i had no idea what a shim was at this point, and didnt use one, thinking that the tension in the strings would just raise it up again.

I think what happened is every other set of strings i used fell victim to this, as it was DEEP in the cavity (leaning backside-down), so the tension was all fucked up.

So I'm gonna stick a small book in there or something to keep it level next time i string....hopefully this solves my problem.
