Sorry to bring back a thread a month old but I was looking at getting one of these tomorrow seeing as I get paid. I was just wondering could I use it just as a poweramp and not have the eq on the amp get in the way if I were to somewhere down the line get a GT-8?

So how would I go about doing this then? I've heard about doing it but I've never understood how. Sorry I know I'm a pain in the ass.

It would get in the way, for this reason : It distorts like a tube amp. The purpose of a poweramp is to provide CLEAN decibel out-put to serve a preamp of the user's choice. For that, the Powerblock is a dismal failure. BUT, if you want a
distortable single channel that's very loud ( and actually a bit toneful, I might say ) and should take overdrive pedals well, its a good amp, and for 200$ is a cheap thrill.

As for powering your GT-8, save up 100$ more and get something off of this page : http://www.carvin.com/products/dcmseries.php

Yea when I tried it out I actually thought that it performed quite well for the price. But thats just me and I'm rather easily impressed.

It does perform extremely well for the price ( if you're not too particular about your clean tones ), add an overdrive pedal and you might get some metal tones out of it. But for being a poweramp --- my friends and I had a good laugh out of that one. Because the way Crate advertises it, its as if they're claiming they've invented the concept of having a box of watts to run a POD or GT-8 through.

Thats probably because they thought that people wouldn't take it seriously as an amp so they resorted to trying to maket it as more of a poweramp. Anyway thats a no in regards to it making a decent poweramp then right?

I have no idea but I went ahead and bought it last friday and I couldn't be more happy with it as an amp on it's own. My only complaint would have to be that it sounds way WAY too sterile with emgs.
