Tone In 'Passage To The Reaper' Demonstration
I have a quick question, how is Roope getting that synth/organ/orchestrated type sound out of his guitar in the 'Passage To The Reaper' demonstration that Alexi Laiho and him did together? I have tried to recreate it with various effects and have not come close to that sound. Is it a synth pickup, or the amp he is using, or effects, or a combination of all three? Thanks in advance.
also
"What the fuck are you talking about? What band? He's in many you know. Did you mean in Children of Bodom? Well, if you knew anything you would know that they have a keyboardist who does all that.
"
i do know that, I didn't mean Children of Bodom, I meant his demonstration video with guitarist Roope Latvala from Sinergy (I believe). If you need to see the video to know what I mean, i can send it to you. Sorry for not being clear enough.

What do you mean? CoB has a keyborardist who does all the keyboard-ish shit. You have a link to see the demonstration? Cause otherwise, I have no idea what you mean.

Sounds and pedal questions are a gear talk.

Yea, I thought you'd like it, I learned a lot from it, if you want the tabs for the excercises go to Ultimate-Guitar.com and Search for 'Passage To The Reaper' and you should get the tab.
Cheers

OK I just watched the video, and I think the synth stuff you are talking about is just the backing music...

ive seen a vid of that alexio guy with another, playing some classical piece together, and the other guy had a violin effect/simulator sound.
i guess ifs just a effect, i knwo they exist in many different types like violin, and flute.
i know hate eternal used a flute effect on the solo of darkness by oath.
im not completely sure, but if the vid im talking bout is the same as ur talking bout its definatly a violin effect.
ill try makign some screens of the vid, maybe u can tell if its the same one

Found this on another forum. Only covers the distortion part.
Marshall AMP- JCM 2000 gain:8, Master:2, Bass:10, Middle:8, Treble:10, Presence:2,
Rack: Lee Jackson GP-1000, Rocktron Intellifix, Engl 840/50 tube poweramp
pedal specs: BOSS ds-1 distortion, BOSS phaser, BOSS flanger, BOSS delay. sorry but the specs in the magazine only cover the distortion...
ds-1: distortion: 3 o'clock... level: 9 o'clock....Tone:1 o'clock...
Delay Pedal time:
445ms... he uses an equalizer pedal but i have to look up the specs again...

So that's what he used in the video? Cause I know there's a special Young Guitar Magazine issues with him in it and he explains what gear and settings he used on the Follow th Reaper. I also found the same info as you, but in this form:
GUITARS:
2 ESP RV-350 AL
1 ESP RV-398 AL
All 3 guitars have installed active circuitry EMG PA-2.
POWER AMPS:
ENGL 840/50
PEAVEY CLASSIC 50/50
EFFECTS:
ROCKTRON INTELLIFEX
PREAMP:
LEE JACKSON PERFECT CONNECTION GP-1000
CABINETS:
MARSHALL JCM-900 4 x 12"
That's all he's using now (that I know). In the past he used Peavey 5150, Rocktron Velocity power amp, I've seen him live using Marshall JCM 2000 head. Of course he had 3 custom Jackson RR guitars (for guitars look at scythes-of-bodom.com), he had RR1 (sold it), for Something Wild he used Ibanez RG-220B, and he's first guitar was white Tokai Stratocaster.
He uses DR strings (gauge 11), and picks by Jim Dunlop (thick Jazz 3 picks).
Concerning tone, he likes a lot of midrange, cuz it makes guitar stick out in the mix.
Well his settings are set at
Amp :
Master - 2
Bass - 10
Mid - 8
Trebble - 10
Presence - 2
Distortion:
Tone - 6
Gain - 8
level - 2
and the active equalizer set for a dip curve, setting the lows and higs at high levels, the mids at around mid-range frequency's and the presence set at 0 (equalizers run between -12 and 12 so zero is the middle setting)
got all that form the young guitar featured on alexi and the equpiment said he used an ENGL 840/40 power amp but he does switch them around alot. the second bodom U.S. tour they had Randall full stacks,
I thought these eq settings were for lee jackson GP1000.

I copied that out of www.sycthes-of-bodom.com forum. He really didnt have ESPs back then, I guess the guy that posted that just edited the guitars section.
