Buzzing help
most recently i decided to lower my bridge on the next string change. I knew since i lowered the bridge i would have to adjust the truss rod. For some reason i get an insane amount of buzzing no matter what i do. Any ideas?

when i check to see how my trust rod is i set my guitar completely verticle. look down one of the sides u should see the fretwire leading a straight path if the fretboard looks like its curved backwards or forwards then u need to adjust ur trust rod.

elements that may lead to buzzing.
- frets are of uneven height
- action too low
- string gauge or tension too light
- too much or too little bowing in the neck
- twisted neck (in which case its not impossible to fix, but not worth the trouble)
- not enough pressure exerted by finger to fret a note/s
- string not secured tightly at the tuning pegs or bridge
ive found that string gauges are usually to blame (apart from the action set too low), especially when tuning down.
daddario, dean markleys, dr strings, and ghs all buzz compared to a same gauge ernie ball. il either use a light gauge ernie or heavier gauge strings from the other makers.
if its a shit guitar, then itll probably be incorrect fret levels, and more than likely incorrect truss rod adjustment (once again, excluding the obvious action being too low).

Damn. In that case something is wrong with the truss rod, or at least that is where I would start looking to fix the problem. How does it play between the 12-24 frets? Does it still buzz like crazy?

yeah it buzzes like crazy. ive adjusted the truss rod from extremely loose to really tight to try and fix the problem and it gives me the same problem. i dont know much about truss rods but am i sure i havent done any damage to it. its a pretty nice guitar so i dont think its the frets either. what do you guys think? should i just take it into a tech and let him help me?

do you want like a measurement from the body? its about 3/4 of an inch. its not touching the pickups at all its just barely on the fret board. i know it can be done ive seen it on similiar guitars.

try highering the action, see if it still buzzes, if yes, i dont have a fucking vlue, if not, theres the problem.
in my experience.. my jackson usa1, i could set the action as low as i wanted, until it woul be like 1 or 2 mm abopve the fretboard (with a little buzz, but not enough to hear while playing through an amp). on my ibanez, i couldnt lower the action to much.
anyway good luck with this

Make your action height between 2.0 to 1.5 mm. The fatter string should have a little more distance than the thin string. Making the fat string 2.0 and the thin string 1.5 is a pretty normal good height. If it still buzzes and you neck is correct than the pickups are way too close. Move the pickups a little farther away from the strings. The fatter strings need to be a little farther away from the pickups than the skinny strings. Check your intonation. If your intonation is way off it will make strings buzz because of unequal pitches throughout the guitar (that is what helped my buzz problem a lot). Be sure your string aren't too old. If all these are correct than bring it to a guitar tech.

Haha, true, but we don't use 15ths!!
When my frets buzzed, I did one of three things..
Truss rod adjustment
File down a fret, if it was only one that buzzed.
Admit that my guitar is cheap, and put the action back up 1/16 or 1/8 depending on what guitar I was tooling around with.

Sorry for thread jacking....
I have a epiphone special that buzzes a little. It's used. The nut needs to be replaced (the low E strings sits in the nut, but isn't fully supported on both side, if that makes sense. I still play with out the string falling out though.) and the tuners are loose, but also it has a minor and a somewhat larger crack next to the nut. Cracks weren't mentioned as cause of buzzing? I can get it to stop buzzing if I turn the tone way up and turn the bass down.

Hahah right. I live in the States and even I know that the metric system is far superior.
As far as buzzing, I used to fix guitars for a living, so heres what you do.
First of all, a guitar neck should never be perfectly straight. it needs whats called "relief", or a slight bow to it. Since when a string vibrates it moves in an eliptical manner, it needs more space to move in the middle (between the 7th and 14th frets, roughly). It most likely sounds like you just lowered your action too much. Go over to Stewart MacDonald's webiste and pick up an action gauge. They are like $15 and invaluable for setting a guitars action.
