Everything I need to replace a guitar's electronics...
Soon I'm buying a new pair of pickups(passive) to replace into my current guitar. I think my guitar's tone/vol. knobs and wires are crap, so I want to replace them too to get rid of any noise they cause.
Do they sell complete wiring sets with tone and volume knobs, wires, and perhaps a 3-position PU switch? I don't know if I should change the switch in mine, I'm not sure if it's noisy. My setup is a pair of humbuckers, by the way.
Wax pots sound like a good idea. Does anyone know of any good parts manufacturers? What parts should I buy and where should I get them from(as in online)? Also would someone explain the difference between 250k and 500k pots?
And most importantly of all: does anyone know any link to a guide for setting up a guitar's electronics from scratch? If I didn't find my guitar's current wiring so confusing I would try it based on how it's wired, but it's a mess in there...
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A 250K pot is commonly used on single coils to take the harshness of the treble, and 500K's are used on humbuckers to let more of the treble through, so the sound is more balanced. A larger value pot will give you more of the pickups 'sound', as its not gonna cut much treble off I'd say that its probably worth replacing the switch, its probably only about $3 for one, so you may as well. How many pots does your guitar have? I'd suggest if 2, then have a master volume, and a tone, if 3; pickup1 tone, pickup2 tone, volume. Use your current guitars wiring as a guide, draw it out on a piece of paper, and just follow it. Keep it neat inside that cavity, as it'll be much easier if you have to problem-solve in the future Also, i'd suggest buying a new output socket, as your current one is probably getting a little bit shitty
Hope that helped somewhat

anyone that sells pickups should be selling electricals also.
ive found dimarzio products to be good.
i would also recommend buying a decent book that takes you through the process step by step if youre new to electricals. the pics are also helpful in the books.

There's a thread with many links for buying guitar parts online. I believe it was called "guitar project", I bookmarked alot of em. Here's what I got www.allparts.com and www.warmoth.com and www.stewmac.com
Also check out http://www.guitarproject.com/ref/supply.htm it's like the ultimate site for everything, body refinishing, electronics, supplies, the works. To redo the electronics, I recommend going to your guitar manufacturers website and downloading the schematics, there usually free. Hope this helps!
