I need advice on buying a new guitar please!!!!

Ok, the thing is that i ve been playing punk rock for 2 years now, and my band has having lot of luck lately, and i plan to change my guitar for something good. First i thought of the traditional american strato, but then i thought i should get a gibson les paul, or a telecaste why not. The point is i need advice whic guitar would be the best to buy for my punk rock music.

thx

Yes! GREAT Idea.

Go with the Les Paul if you got the dough to spend. They are the Cadillac's of guitars.

....and again, not to bitch on anyone, but why do people keep getting the notion that Les Pauls are for rhythm?

i have no idea, most of the time you see people play lps when they play rythym but any guitar can play lead really. im just partial to les pauls for rythym.

yeah i know

Its punk, a les paul would be fine for any punk guitaring, its all 5ths anyway

Na but seriously, you arent gonna be doing 5 string sweeps on the 20th fret in that style of music, so even for lead a les paul would be mint.

Expand your options though, it seems you only want those guitars because they are well known.
Check out what axes your favourite bands use and get some more ideas.

Out of the ones you have mentioned i would say go with the paul, because they are cooler than strats and tele's, and would sound much better in your style of playing

I would personally take the telecaster option.

but thats mainly because i play a Tele myself and am biased in their direction.

one thing you have to worry about when playing a Les is their sheer weight.
with some people its not a problem but for some, standing up on stage for an hour jacking off on a les can be bloody hard work. Tele's are slightly lighter but still have enough wood to give them a nice tone and sustain. I play a Telecaster in my metal band and right now i couldnt imagine playing anything else. I play a J5 sig tele because it has by default a humbucker in the bridge and i am a sweetheart for stringthrough.

If you want to see a nice looking tele. Check out the "Big Block" Series at www.fender.com

another reason to buy a Tele? Because Les Pauls are held together with Glue!

Indeed it does. i have played around with it quite a bit and as far as i gather it will play almost any style you want. The Enforcer humbucker is nothing special but it can be replaced with some duncans or EMG's but the neck pickup is stunning

If you've got money to burn, then sure, go ahead and get a Les Paul. They are great guitars, but extremely expensive. I personally think that they are overpriced.
If you have your heart set on a LP style guitar, check out http://www.rondomusic.net, they have excellent Les Paul knockoffs for a fraction fo the price. The most expensive one will run you less than $700 and has Seymour Duncan pickups, set neck, mahogany one piece body, maple top, grover tuners, the works.
You should also check out some guitars made by Ibanez and/or Jackson. if you look around this forum a bit you'll see that they are very popular. They also aren't as expensive as Gibsons.
Another good brand to check out is ESP/LTD. Their Eclipse models are basically Les Pauls with 24 frets and a cooler looking cutaway. I hear good things about them.
It's up to you, man. Strats and Teles are great guitars, too, because they are very versatile. I really like their bluesy tone, it's fucking great.
There's also the question of why you are looking for advice on a good guitar for punk on a metal forum. I have a feeling you're gonna get yourself flamed.

Punk sucks and so does Bam Margera. Anyway now that I've got that off my chest. I'd go with one of the guitars from Rondo Music they're pretty damn decent for the price.

i say u should go with an ibanez RG model. their fairly cheap, light weight usually, beefy lows, and what not. its good for all types of music. scence u said u play punk, then just keep the stock pickups in and u'll get that sound
