Guitar effect for Black
Hi to all guys,
i m a newbye in this wonderful forum and as every newbye i ve some questions that i wish they'll be answered too.
first of all, i m playing eletric guitar (a simple yamaha for general use, and a marshall amp 50 W), and i would play a sound that is very common in black metal sounds.
i mean that "norwegian" classical sound you can listen, for example, in this songs:
With Ravenous Hunger Satyricon
As Flittermice As Satans Spys Darkthrone
obviosly there are lots of songs where you can find this particular sound.
so, i ve tried with my MT-2 boss pedal but i ve not been able to simulate it, so expert and not expert, what do you suggest me ???????
i neeed other type of effects, or i m not very good to setup my pedal?
thank you in advance for your help
bye

mmmhhhh
sure?
i agree Mt-2 can do lots of things in metal, and black also, but i mean a specific black sound!
i ve read somewhere, people who uses only ampli head (lke this ) one without any pedal or specific effect.
but i m sure you cannot play all satyricon's or burzum's songs simply with an ampli !!!!
can't you help me in some way?
thank for your reply

I would recommend a eq pedal like the boss ge 7. Than you can tweak your sound properly and get that sound you are looking for.
And you can get a decent sound with just using an amps. you can't expect to get a decent sound from a crappy half stack. but with more high end amps. a lot of dist. pedals are useless. Because the amps dist. is far superior

yes, a lot of higher end amp's distortion is far supperior than any "metal" pedal you can buy. Distortion pedals are more usable when you either have qa tight budget, or just want to have some gain on your 10 watt practice amp.
I second getting a EQ pedal. Without, your pretty much stuck in whatever tone your amps or distortion pedal's producer had in mind when they manufactured it.
Also, what kind of pickups do you have in your guitar? If has only single coils, you should deifinitly look into either buying a new guitar, or upgrading your old one to humbuckers.

thank you for your replies
what do you mean about final amp or higher end' amp distortion?
sorry for boring you but you think this is a good choice in future?
does it meet that requirements you've just explained (or simply.... does it allow me to play black metal suonds)?
my guitar has humbuckers and not single coils....
thank you again for your help

higher end amp distortion just means the distortion found on more expensive, higher quality amps.Higher quality amplifiers dont need pedals in front of them to get decent gain,it is built into the amplifier, and it generally sounds better.
The TSL is quite a good amp,and you should try it and see if it meets your standards. You obviously are pretty new to the whole concept of gear,so try out some amps and see what you like and get familiar with them.
BTW if you want an alternative to your metalzone, try out some other pedals.

blakk metal sound comes down to cutting the bass and maxing the mids and treble, and if applicable, maxing the prescence.
and try to use the shittiest equipment possible as this wont detrakt from the blakk aesthetiks either.

thats actually probably too much amp for that type of stuff. not to knock on your or anything but alot of times those old guys really had shitty shitty equipment to work with. I know for bathory at least all quorthon had was a shitty practice amp that he used on the first 2 albums or so.
as far as getting the 'norwegian' sound heh what other kind of sound is there really. i guess you could say like "fuck I want to sound like dark funeral there from sweden fuck that!" but its all the same as far as overall tone goes. everyband will be different from all the others but if you mean the early 1st generation type shat then its all the same weather from norway sweden or denmark ect

also, what u hear on an album, is recorded in a studio, where they (i think) have so much equipment, that it is rili hard to get that sound they have, if u get what i mean.

good point, to go back to mine though it wouldnt be too hard to get their sound because again they didnt have great equipment back then and couldnt afford a good studio. hel i think emperor and a demo where they basically set up one mic and just played...now a days though say with like the new nile or CC album it would be fucking damn near impossable to get at home.

no
i knew I ve been misanderstood cuz i ve not explained very well
i mean a pure, crystalline and nostalgic sound you can listen to those tracks:
Satyricon TRACK: With Ravenous Hunger ALBUM: Volcano
Gehenna TRACK: Silence The Earth ALBUM: WW
Darkthrone TRACK: As Flittermice As Satans Spys ALBUM:TransylvanianHunger
Gorgoroth TRACK(sono 2): Krig e Funeral Procession ALBUM: Under The Sign Of Hell
they are a few tracks compared to most black metal norvegian bands i report to.
if you need more accurate information tell me...
thank you
PS: i thought to looking for some live photos of these bands, so i can see what kind of equipment and gear they actually play. Is it a good point to start with????
hi to all

If you are just looking for a sound of your own, though, I would recommend that you do as the scientists: Experiment and take note of what setting gives what result. Most equpiment always have something great to offer.

A DOD Death Metal pedal works just fine, but only with a decent Marshall. I run mine thru an MG30 watt combo, and it's brutal.
