Recording two guitar tracks
I've started recording a song I've written and wondering whether I should record two seperate guitar tracks panned to seperate speakers (think Lucid Interval).
I've only done it with one riff at about 0:30. Should I record the whole song like that or just have a single guitar track?

hard as in 50-75
if youre going for a pro sound, youre going to want about 6 or 8 guitar tracks in there. two on each side, eq'ed the same, and many smaller tracks panned all over (symmetrically, unless you want a lop-sided mix). try messing around with EQ settings that sound really bad, like notched every 2/3 octave, and leaving it in the mix, with volume turned down low. the key is that you cant have 6-8 tracks of full eq'd , big heavy guitar tracks. dont worry about a slightly weak tone because when its layered with different tracks at different eqs itll sound big

Whatever your doing at the 30sec mark is definately the way to go. Sounds much more "pro" that way. Sounds very cool so far btw. Whats your setup and what you using for drums if you dont mind my asking?

Thanks. I'll do the two panned at about 75%.
My set up just consists of a Jackson KVX10, Marshall MG100HDFX head and Fruity Loops.
It'll probably take me a while to eventually finish this song. I've got an assignment due Friday and another bullshit one due next Thursday. The second one was set by the fucking vice-dean of the course to only 4 of us. It's about "professional and personal development: how the borders get blurred" for punishment.
What's really gay is that the arsehole wont even read it, he'll just through it straight in the bin.

What i have been doing lately is micing my amp in two spots, with two mics. mic one covers the right channel, mic two covers the left channel. Together it makes a great tone. This way I can pan either way for a riff then pan it the other way for that "Lucid Interval" type trade off.
The only thing you cant do is have to guitars playing the different riffs at the same time.

What do you mean by fully equalized? You can't have 6-8 tracks of fully equalized heavy guitars because it'll clip? Do you mean volume?

Do you mean by pan by putting one guitar track at the left channel and one guitar track at the right channel? What is a Lucid Interval. Why can you not have two guitar playing different riffs at the same time? Harmonization.

Lucid Interval is an album by Cephalic Carnage. They were talking about the song.
