Alright, I've been tossing around the idea of getting another guitar since about April. The 20 grand in my bank account says that money probably won't be an issue. As far as style goes, I'm preferring this to be mostly a very fast metal guitar. Things like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Children of Bodom, Opeth, and a few other random things like Iced Earth and Slayer. Alright, opinions away...

A few other random thoughts/questions.

1. Wasn't sure whether I should try to get something with a good whammy bar or not. Could go either way. I've heard the Floyd Rose's are good, but I want something that's not going to detune by me Satriani-style whammying the fuck out of it.

2. I'm also not sure whether I should go for a seven string, or just drop tune a six for real low tunings. Any of your thoughts would be nice.

3. What the hell's so good about a Ran? I don't recall ever even seeing one before...

A response to any/all of these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1.) If your into heavy whammy, your going to need a Floyd Rose to help prevent detune. It's just a bitch to string.

2.) If you don't mind a bit thicker neck, get a 7 string. I plan on gettong one soon for the same reason.

3). I don't own one myself, but the custom made ones are supposed to be great quality and good value for money. Plus of course you can have it made to just about any specifications.

From what I gather, Ran is only good because it's all custom shop.

If you want heavy wammy bar shit, get a fucking speed loader!!!!!!!! If you've never seen one before, it's basically a guitar without the pegs--just a plain headstock. They usually come on BC Rich and I don't know if other guitars use it too. The only drawback is that it takes a special string, and if you bump it hard and it goes out of tune [too much for fine tuning] you'll have to re-string it.

I suggest you get a flying V jackson, like an RR or a USA soloist, for the bands you're looking at.
My other suggestion is an RG Ibanez.

RR or V? It doesn't even matter what shape it is, it's whatever one he finds most comfortable. Even thought I've never used one, for crazy whammy stuff, people here say that Kahlers are better. Don't go for a Ran unless you really want a custom one. Too many people here automatically go for Rans when they want a new guitar. A high-end standard guitar can suit you plenty well.

1. ive never played an Original Floyd before but i have used the licendsed ones, and i preffer Kahler,

2. if you want a 7 string, go for a Schecter, i preffer those over any Ibanez, for 6 strings id go with a Jackson, or a good Fender with new PUs (thats right, Fender).
i like the idea of not having to downtune with 7 strings but, i hate the thicker neck, so id get a custom if you hate it as much as i do

3. ive never played a Ran but lots of people here have them, and Vader uses them too, so check them for info

besides that, look around for luthiers or custom shops
