Any you guys play decent slide

Just wondering if any of you wizs can play slide , I mean decent not just fuck around.
If so do you tune in open G or standard , Do you use higher action and gauge , Im really thinking about trying to really get good at it , it adds a cool dimension to your playing.

I don't play it, but since I've been researching Hawaiian and it's slide, I can tell you that the action is raised. The old guitar I had had a metal nut that fit over the one on the guitar to raise the strings, but that was a 1930's guitar. The one I just got yesterday has a high action already although the nut doesn't look that exaggeratedly high.
I don't know if that helps you out any or not.

Cloaca had/has a guitar teacher who incorporated slide into his death metal playing ...

I've been thinking of trying something like that myself.

I play some slide. Not totally good at it, but I do play it. I use open G, boxes everything up nice and easy.

Slide Playing is fucking hard!

Problem is also you cant just grab a slide and play a slide solo on the guitar you are using for the entire song.

I nearly bought a lap steel off ebay. was thinking of putting it on top of my amp and playing it for the solo.

very difficult to make a slide sound metal though.

unless your awesome

My idea is to have a small slide on my pinky so I can do slides on the bottom two strings ( I play in Drop A ) just for the strange sounds ...

Slide could be used in metal easily. I can hear all sorts of errie sounds using a slide. One in particular, a mean ass divebomb, or inverted. I can also hear a slide accompying a melody like a motif, just hitting a note with a slide does wonders for dynamics. I've fucked around using a slide, and hitting perfect 4th intervals and sliding em sound so fuckin mean!
