re: In Flames
Yeah, it sounds really commercial, I wonder why they did that!
After Whoracle they didn't make much good stuff anymore.

For those of you that have commented on this album being "more commercial" I have a question for you. What about it makes it more "commercial" and if so does that ruin the music for you? I'd really like to know because its a very common complaint with this In Flames record(as well as Clayman). Don't bother answering if you don't have anything intelligent to say.

I really think it ruins the music. The music of In Flames has lost all the evil and heaviness which made them to one of my favourite bands. Some songs sound like nu metal (no joke). And commercial means that the melodys and songs sound compatible to get in the Top 10 of Germany. And there's a lot of shit in it.
All those Chart music fuckers only produce their music (or whatever you might call it) for money making. I don't know if In Flames want to earn more money with their new style of music but it sounds like this.
Death Metal has to be evil, honest, heavy, aggressive. These things went lost in the music of In Flames. Ok it's still a softer kind of Death Metal, but if they will go on in this way we will see them at the MTV Music Awards playing something like Papa Roach. When I listen to the older In Flames albums I want to SCRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM because of their new stuff.
Hope this was intelligent enough for you.
Cheers!!!

i think your wrong. in flames aint writing stuff to be commercial. bands change their sounds. also, they will never be commercial as long as they have anders on vocals. also, it in no way sounds like nu metal. i think to many people just immediatly assume something is commercial just becuase everyone else says it is. in flames is writing their stuff cuz they want to, not cuz they wanna be commercial. 90% of the bands that people think "sell out", don't

"No melody, no In Flames."
The band said this, and it still holds true no matter how commercial you think their melodies or hooks are. In Flames has ALWAYS been a catchy melodic death band and I don't see how it's any different now.
One thing I really am tired of though is the constant whining and complaining about their progression to where they are now. "The Jester Race and Whoracle are the best, everything besides that is crap!!" Fuck you. How many of you bought the Jester Race when it was originally released? How many of you actually own an In Flames album and not just a folder full of mp3s? How many of you have seen In Flames live, and if you have would you walk up to the band and say, "Hey, you're last few albums were really shitty and I fucking hate them with a passion but you had 2 records that were awesome!!!" If you don't like the recent stuff, fine. Don't jump on the bandwagon full of a bunch of jackass internet kids that have nothing better to do than slam an album they've barely let sink in.
Once the advance copy was available on the net, In Flames own official message forum instantly was overrun by negativity and bitching. A bunch of 13-15 year old spoiled fuckin brat kids that claim to be hardcore In Flames fans jumping all over the new album. Most of the people that do this shit wanted to hate this album, they wanted to listen to it track by track and try and point out every riff, every section of music that they are sure is nu-metal. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but to do this on a band's official board? Christ thats really low, go to another board and flame away if you really have to.
A couple years ago a person over at atmetal told me to check In Flames out and gave me a few tracks off Whoracle and Jester Race to listen to. I loved it and have been a fan ever since. I still like the band's work, and the new album was very different in parts but come on people, its also very much an In Flames record. Anyways, I just wanted to throw in my worthless 2 cents.

Ok I respect your opinion. The reason of my opinion is that I have seen a development like this in other bands. For example Anathema or Tiamat. I really loved this two bands but now....
I didn't write this because i wanna be "cool" or a "bad guy" or some shit like that. I don't have my opinion because a special number of people has it, too. It's my opinion and you wanted to know why I think it's commercial. Ok it isn't. Maybe they change their music only because they want to and not for money making. I don't care what's the reason for the change. But my opinion is they have changed their music to the worse.
And I'm a fan of In flames since "whoracle". I bought this album and I bought "colony" when it was released. But I won't buy the new stuff.

wow this first song sucks the damn chorus songs like a fucking linkin park song... im pissed
* god what is this second song.. it isn't good to begin with and then turns all slow and into a damn korn sounding song. now i'm really pissed..
** ok so far the only song ive been able to stand is Dawn of a new Day. That's pretty good but i smell a small hint of nu-metal in it... just a little
*** ok minus was going good but then that soft singing part came and fucked it up.. what the hell is with all this soft singing crap? anders cant sing soft!
**** finally this horrible album is over. I really never thought In Flames could sieze to amaze me... but they did.. i now officially hate an in flames album... i never thought that could happen... just listening to lunar strain last night i was reminded of how good they are... what a dissapointment.. i'm not even going to buy this album

Wham! Fuck yeah! I love it when this man gets on a bandwagon, it's always worth reading.
I'll frame my comments without any whining about who I am:
I think as this music has progressed, the writing becomes increasingly formulaic. It's still got a shitload of appeal, I fucking love the guitar harmony this band has, it can take the heaviest shit and make it melody. But especially on Clayman, and now this new album, I can play the album from go to whoa and sometimes I don't notice the song transitions. Like one long expression of In Flames-ish music, with less differentiation.
It's not wrong or right, but I value individuality really heavily. Perhaps too heavily.
And don't make fun of MP3 owners, I only have the Jester Race in CD, I have 4 full albums of MP3 though. I felt guilty about that, so I bought a shirt to purge my guilt. It rules too

Ah, sane I'm not makin fun of mp3 owners man. I have several albums on mp3, but what I'm gettin at is a bit different. Most of these kids complaining have had the music handed to them like candy and they judge everything at their computer.
If I were doggin mp3s, I wouldnt have an FTP up that had the new album eh?

Hails,
I just listened to a couple of songs, but all the agression is gone, all the great guitar parts has been gone, and I must say the vocal parts are like S.O.A.D, Three Doors down etc... The music is still good, I didn't say it wasn't only that it sounded commercial, in one way, I think the band wanted it this way, cause i think it's difficult to make after 3 full albums, to create something new, that's why I think they slowly make this kinda of music and now they have changed it completel;y by also changing the vocals. After the album "whoracle" they changed up there music, little sad though. In Flames was one of the best bands I knew together with Dark Tranquillity, Dark Tranquillity is still one of my favorite bands, they made one bad album so far "Haven", though I bought it anyway, wanna have all of it
grtz D.
