emgs in my bc rich
I've heard that active pickups sound the same in most types of wood so can i still get good tone out of my warlock with active pickups, even though it has shitty basswood?

hmm, your guitar would be a good place to put them!
but neways, the most popular combo is the EMG 81/85 combo. most people have the 81 at the bridge possition and the 85 at the neck possition altho some prefere it the other way around. you could get the EMG 81/60 combo if you needed good cleans, (81B 60N).
there was no need to make a whole new thread, theres a sticky all about emgs here.
look there if you want more info, im sure what your looking for is bound to turn up in there.

Basswood isn't shitty, at least it's not agathis. Basswood is like alder but a bit warmer in sound. It's all preference really. If you stick in some passives in your axe it might sound very good. EMG's are cool but a little too expensive and give you the same exact sound everyone else has because it relies on a preamp. I suggest you try a SD JB/Jazz combo, Dimarzio X2N/PAF Pro or Fred combo, Evolution combo or something else depending on what you play mostly. But hey, if you really really like the EMG sound then go for it.

Just out of curiosity....Why would you get a b.c rich? I've played them and they have to be the shittiest sounding guitars ever...you might as well save the money on your emg's and get a jackson or an ibanez or something

I got it before I learned how to play, big mistake. I might just sell it anyway, but maybe not. I'm going to get a Jackson evenually.

everyone says EMG's sound the same in all types of woods but i disagree, just cause it has a preamp it's not going to make all guitars sound the same, i think wood will always play a huge factor in tone.
if you put those emg's in your bc rich and you have a bad amp i guarantee you, you will hardly even notice a diff. So if you have a bad guitar and a bad amp and think that EMG's will be the answer to all your problems, think again.

If you're not doing any recording anytime soon, you could probably just save your money for another guitar rather than modding a guitar you don't like.
Unless you like the playing, you just don't like the amplified sound, in which case you wouldn't have to worry about a Jackson right now.

Dumb ass......... You probably went to the closest guitar store, picked up a bronze series warlock/mockingbird with standard pickups and played them through a small Berhinger combo amp. Maybe it was you who couldn't play therefore got a shitty sound from a decent bc rich maybe. You ask him why he got a bc rich, maybe he wanted to. Just cuz you think they are shitty doesnt mean everyone else does.
