Cannibal Corpse Tone
Im trying to achieve the same tone that Cannibal Corpse get in songs like Gutted and The Bleeding. Anybody know what gear they used on those albums and what are some amps that can give me this tone.

You dont really need the amps, Its distortion with some chorus. I believe they used Crate amps on The Bleeding.

A shit load of the most awesome distortion ever.
But on the official cannibal corpse site it says there using crate blue voodoo amps and the mesa boogie triple rectifiers. I used to have the dual rectifier. And I could nail the cannibal corpse sound pretty good.

jack owens used a gx130c for awhile before switching to the bv300. and i know he had one of the digitech preamp/fx units.
pat. pretty much his triple recto.
as far as cabs, i've seen em use marshalls, and v30 blue voodoo cabs.

What i meant was try to match their distortion & add a little chorus, play an octive chord & you will notice what im talking about. Of course you will need a decent multi-effects pedal to do this.

i'm sure the chorus-y sound you speak of would be jack's 2101(i'm pretty sure that's the one he had). it's a preamp/fx unit.

"The wretched spawn" had a bonus-dvd which shows Corpse in the studio and Jack explains his rack. The main parts are the above mentioned 2101 and a Mesa poweramp (2:90 I guess).
You can also see some Crate and Mesa amps.

i'll have to watch it again. but i'm pretty sure he uses the 2101 with his head, and not a poweramp. though i could be wrong.

I have the 2101, and it sounds pretty much like it. (I'd like to get his pre-sets.) The gain is from analog transistors for the metal gain. I think it the routs through the tubes for warmth and tone. It's got tube distotion, but just good enough for rock. The delay dosen't have a tap switch, so he may have to set the delay for each song, or have a seperate delay unit. The delayed notes sound pretty harsh, like there coming out of a box. It sounds killer through my Marshall though.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I want that tone used on the bleeding and I was wondering if anyone has any more info than what's already posted here. Since I want the Bleeding tone and not the IMO shittier sound from Wretched Spawn I don't care about what Mesas or Blue Voodoos or whatever these guys used most recently. Looking for old CC tone here.
Edit:
Just found this link in another old thread but some of you thought the webpage writer had his head up his ass:
http://mypeoplepc.com/members/paulc...hammer/id5.html
Guess I'll look for that old Crate head he shows (GT-300?) or that GX130c mentioned by xdx.

try and hunt down the gx130c... it's a similar curcuit to the ampeg vh140c... and the new crate shockwaves also have some similar shit going on from what i understand.
one thing that definately addeds to the darkness of the sound is the mild chorus.
lets not forget shitloads of studio editing.

+1 to Crate GX130c. I have one and use these settings:
High: 7-8
Shape: 4-5
Low: 5-6
I use it without chorus, but it's very CC like and brutal!
