Neck questions?
I use two kinds of gauges when I play guitar. Either 9-42 or 11-49. After changing to those gauge the only thing I adjust is the action and intonation. I do not adjust the tross rod (neck) after changing to those string tension. I change the strings one by one. My neck doesn't really seem to be affected (or very slightly that I cannot notice a difference). So my question is when you all change to different gauge set strings do you only adjust the action and intonation or do you adjust the neck as well. I heard adjusting the neck should be rare because you can fuck your guitar up by breaking it that way.
My other question is I know a guitar neck can be affected by the temperature. When I'm playing at the place I record I obviously keep the ac temperature at a good temperature (78 or 79). But when I'm going out I take it off because the AC is quite expensive. I do not go out often but when I do I stay out around like 6-8 hours. With the AC of that long do you think it will affect my guitar neck. When I come back it isn't very hot; it is tolerable and my guitar neck didn't seem to be affected to my eyes (guitar still sounds the way it did). When you guys or gals go out of your place do you keep your ac of. If you do; do you adjust the neck every time you keep your ac of?!!
I was always pondering that.

from what my guitar tech tells me the tross has to be adjusted as well as the innotation and action.
and your neck question is somewhat difficult for me to answer since i dont know much about necks.
but from understanding wood, i don't think temperature wise wood is affected much.
its common physics if you take something from a certain temperature condition and bring it into a temperature condition w/ a huge drop or gain it can greatly affect the material.
but for now that only applies to metal imo. i dont know much about wood.
anywho, your neck should be fine. aslong as you have the wood polished and cleaned and shit you're good.

Yea,
I need to figure out the truss rod too. I got 4 guitars now, some with 10's, others with 9's on em, one with zakk boomers. I need to know when to tighten and release it. Or more like, how much to do I turn it? Or when do I turn it? I'm sure sometimes you only need to turn it a hair. Is there a tool to measure how much the neck needs to be bowed or straigtened according to string guage?

This is how to see if your guitar neck is good. Put a capo (or fret it with your finger, but it is harder that way) at the 1st fret and fret the 12th and look at the 6th fret. If you can barely see some light passing through the top of the fret and the bottom of the string your guitar is good. Basically if you can fit a business card through that space your guitar neck is good. I heard about people adjusting their neck after changing string tension but for me the neck shape still stayed correct. That is what I'm wondering.

I can't express to the fullest how much I hate the truss rod. People always say that fucking with the truss can fuck your guitar up, which pisses me off even more (cause its true) Whenever I try to adjust my truss I dont which way to turn the damn rod, seems like it doesnt do shit no matter which way I turn it, and I dont wanna fuck with it too much, so I don't crack the neck on my ran (or any other guitar) Someone needs to invent a more reliable, easier to adjust truss, because every truss I have worked with is a piece of shit.

I agree. So many guitarists can do all maintenance procedures except the fuckin truss rod. Why does it have to be so tedious when and when not to turn the truss rod. Why can't their be like a simple ass tool and says "turn it blah blah clockwise" Thanks Schizoid for the reply, I'm gonna try that.
