Tremolo Spring Screws
Okay,
I've fitted my new hamer with 10's, it had 9's on it. So after reading the floyd rose string refitting page, they say going from a smaller to thicker guage, you will prob have to increase tension to equal out the force from the thicker strings. Okay, I done that, but I've literally screwed the tremolo spring screws all the way to the wood, I can't turn it anymore, and the tremolo is just about a centi from being flush with the body. What do I do? Is it okay to have the screws drilled all the way down? Hopefully that won't fuck shit up will it? Thanks!

You may have to put another spring in the system, to make the trem tighter/more tension. Mine has 3, some have 5, i guess it all depends what tuning you are more likely to use.

If the bridge isn't perfect with the screws all the way in, get another spring.

If your trem has 3 springs, you can also put he 2 on either side of the center spring at an angle, forcing them to stretch a bit more than if they were straight. Put them at equal and opposite angles so they aren't trying to twist the bridge, like this:

I have 12's in mine, 3 pretty tight springs, and I've only screwed it into the body a little bit. But yea I would add a spring, then unscrew the tension screws a little.

This exact same thing happened to me. I put the Zakk Wylde GHS Boomers on my guitar and there was waaay too much of a pull by the strings. I was tuning it and bent a note and the 1st string snapped. Fucking floyds.....

yea those are quite a big gauge to put on floyds haha, 60 or 70 gauge 6th string depending on what set you get. I have them on my TOM stop tail les paul, but i would never put it on a floyd.

3 springs already! You might just have pussy springs, my floyd has only 2 springs and I play that guitar in E with 10s, and it's nowhere near maxed out.
My springs are double 'ard.

Excellent replies, great information. I'm going to the guitar shop tomorrow and buying some springs, and hopefully they'll have some heavy duty type. The springs on there right now may just be wore to fuckin hell and need replacement. Thanks everyone
