EMG 85 in the bridge? EMG H in the neck?

Hey I found a Jackson Soloist for sale I really like. Here's what it says in the ad..

"The pickups have been upgraded to an EMG 85 in the bridge and an EMG H single coil in the neck. A boost circut was added to the neck pickup as well so there is no volume change when switching between pickups. When playing the neck pickup through a clean channel, it has a acoustic sound that gives this guitar alot of flexability. The tone pot has been bypassed giving you pure sound."

This guitar comes stock with passive HZ's but they've obviously added actives, does it sound like they did it right? Anything I should look out for if I get this guitar(with the wiring)? Anyone played on a EMG H? How does it compare to a 60? Also, anybody here use an 85 in the bridge position? Thanks

I wouldn't recommend a 85 in the bridge. It's more of a neck pickup for leads and clean stuff. It think a 85 in the brdige sounds a bit to dark and muddy. And you can get soundbites at the emg site of emg-H and a 60. Than you can compare the 2. I never played a emg -H but I did play a 60 in the neck. And it sounded pretty good. nice sound for leads.

The 85 doesn't sound too bad in the bridge position in the sound clip. But the EMG H doesnt have a sample on the site..

i think it just depends on the rest of the rig. some people are looking for a hotter pickup with more low end than the 81. the 85 can be a good pickup for either spot imo.

if your amp is... say a recto. i'd advise againt it, yet if it were maybe a jcm 900. i'd maybe suggest it. you got to balance your eq at some point in the rig.
